Hi, I'm new to the group, I already have 2 Basses a Dingwall & a Lakland P.J, Wich I must say are great to play, I'm looking for opinions on a mid range jazz/sterling as I've no shops near me at all, plus the ones you phone generally try to push for one, I've seen the G&L TRIBUTE JB in Lake placid blue, also a sterling SS STINGRAY & then finally a Sire V7 2ND GENERATION with a nice variety of colours plus a matching headstock & new pickups from the previous one, I'm reaching out on what the group thinks or can add anything else for me to consider, I basically want a different style from the two I have to thumble around with at home plus its got to have a great slap tone, & prefer to have a maple neck, all opinions will be much appreciated so thanks in advance if anyone replies xxxx

I have a Sterling, short scale ‘Ray and absolutely love it. It needed a little nut fettling on arrival and I replaced the functional, but slightly sloppy tuners, other than that, it’s my current go to bass, despite being the cheapest bass in my modest collection. I’d certainly buy another if something happened to it.

Thanks for the welcome & both opinions, still not decided as no rush (though would love love an original geddy Lee Bass but out my price range lol), it's either going to be the SS stingray or the 2nd gen v7 which unfortunately has a long waiting list at andertons, they have a burgundy but rosewood neck which looks great but not the right neck, also the sherwood green but only in a 5 string which I've never played & can't get the lake placid blue as reminds me of man City lol, so either wait for the new stock to come in which could be awhile unless I find a colour I like on the SS MM, Much appreciated for the replies cheers.

Hi & thanks for the replies, ezbass (great name did you like the band shammen by any chance 😉). I noticed you said you had a modest collection, does any of those include the Sire V7 2nd generation as I mentioned in my post, reason why is from what I've read & heard they are very versatile for all types of music which would be a plus in my opinion, cheers 😊

Welcome Jerry.

Are you specifically wanting a brand new bass or would you be willing to buy pre-owned?  I bought a new Sire from  Andertons and the waiting time kept getting extended - not their fault.  It was a nice bass with an ash body and maple fingerboard but it weighed a ton!
