Josh
Just stumbled on this clip of Dirk recording for his current band: I actually quite like it, but still it's nice to get a rare glimpse of Dirk playing post Incubus. risingson
Would it be complete sacrilege to say that I prefer Ben Kenney's bass playing??
Etienne
Probably, but I'm with you on that one Liam! Both great players, but I prefer Ben Kenney's style, sound and facial hair!

risingson
Nah. I think Ben's got a heavier groove than Dirk and appeals a bit more to me.
Faithless
Ah, spotted this on Talkbass a while ago. I'm not very much into Incubus (though, got nothing against them..), so, it was first time, I saw their ex-bassist, but, gotta say, I was quite impressed with Dirk's playin'. BTW, that tune, which Dirk is recordin' on, is just legendary.. Lyrics - "Sing, like you're dangerous".. Epic. Josh
[quote name='liamcapleton' post='459990' date='Apr 11 2009, 04:09 PM']Nah. Ben doesn't even play most of Dirk's slap lines live as it is and just generally has a softer approach, I enjoy him as a melodic player though, as opposed to a groove player. risingson
Fair enough. I've got Ben down more as a roots player, the big vintage sound and the pick-palm muting thing he does so well reminds me of old Carol Kaye stuff. I was just never a fan of Dirk's tone.
