Anyone visit Band on the Wall 1986-1988

I spent a couple of years in Manchester between  September 1986 and September 1998 and used to visit Band on the Wall and remember a phenomenal young bass player - I can't remember much but he played through a small polytone combo and he might possibly have supported Bill Bruford. I was just wondering if anyone remembers his name and what became of him. He was really funky. I know it's not a lot to go on but you can only ask.

I bought a polytone - trying to emulate him and it was the worst amp I've ever owned.

Yeah I was regular visitor there. Great small venue with a rich history and glad to see they are still thriving and growing. Can’t say I recall the person you’re describing I’m afraid.
Have you tried contacting the venue. I think they have good archives of previous artists.

Thanks Dazed,

I'll give it a try. I'm really not sure if he was supporting Bruford. I dragged a group of friends along who absolutely hated the music, it was very weird compared to his Berlin / Holdsworth band - I was expecting something similar. Very embarassing evening, my friends were laughing at how bad they felt the music was. I wasn't impresed by their behaviour, but felt guilty for bringing them to something they didn't enjoy.

It’s the sort of thing that happens when you’re young that you wouldn’t put up with when you’re older…
