Hofner Bass Real or Fake?

I inheritated this Hofner Bass after my dad passed away and he was a massive Beatles fan and had all the other guitars played by the band and they were all real but my brother (Sound Engineer) Thinks that this is not a real Hofner and i am really interested in your opinions

I don't think that's a Hofner either - which doesn't mean it's not a perfectly decent instrument in its own right, of course! Lots of companies make Hofner-style basses (http://www.violinbasses.com/gallery.htm), and it's not uncommon for people to swap Hofner bits onto copies to make them more like the originals.

From the style of the bridge, control plate and tuners, it looks like it might be a Challenge violin bass - compare with the pictures here or here?
