BassBiscuit Posted January 30 Posted January 30 (edited) I'm not sure but I don't think the stock in a D5 is actually a single coil.. I think it's split just made to look like one. The Nordstrand single is a tad more 'pronounced' note wise... and can be easier (cleaner) to hear (if that makes sense) Although strings play a big part too eh.... Also I think the output is a bit more too. I've had mine a little while now, I think it was about 90 quid. So not so eye wateringly expensive as to prohibit giving it a go. You can always sell it on if you don't like it.... Regards. BB Edited Sunday at 14:51 by BassBiscuit Quote

Carey got his hands on some original 51 single coils, he picked the one he thought sounded best then reverse-engineered it. Fender aimed for about 6.3k ohm for the singles but being 'proper hand wound' the ladies played fast and loose with the spec, often going for "looks about right"; some are up at 6.7/6.8 k ohm while others are down around 5.7 k ohm. The Nord 51 is in that 5.7k to 6.7k range 6.3 k ohm is a fair drop from today's standard DCR. Duncan, Fralin, Lollar and the rest mostly go with 9k - 9.5k. I've plenty of singles in that 9k - 9.5k bracket but prefer a lower wire count, those Ali-Ex/eBay singles with their 6.8k ohm DCR fit the bill perfectly. 1 Quote
dafonky Posted Sunday at 09:28 Posted Sunday at 09:28 Does somebody use a P51 in a jazz bass housing/format ? My 72-79 Telecaster bass has a Jazz pickup in the position where the 68-71 Telecaster bass has its single coil…… Instead of making a larger routing for an original size P51, , i would first like to try and install one Jazz with 4 single magnets, i saw Nordstrand make these , Delano too ( but with much fatter Stingray -like magnets ) Quote

Needed a wider pole spacing at the bridge and wound RWRP for hum-cancelling when using both single coils. Martin cuts his own flatwork so he'd have no problem doing a bridge position 4 pole jazz single. I was £120 for the pair so he's not too expensive. Will PM you his details if you want 👍 1 Quote
dafonky Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Hi, great i need first a NECK pickup with the 51 P specifications, 4 poles only) but in the shape of a neck Jazz Bass pickup…to get close to the P51 sound….. and yes, it would be interesting to have also a matching bridge PU, ( with 4 polepieces only ) if i would later use the bass with both pickups together ….as it has 2 routings for jazz bass already Quote
fretmeister Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago I'm interested in those Nordy J shaped 51s as well. I love the EMGs in my Sandberg but I also fancy a change, just for no reason at all! Quote
