Annoying Twit Posted January 18, 2009 Share Posted January 18, 2009 Hi. Has anyone tried out the bass amp model on the free (for one year) version of Waves GTR Solo software amp sim + effects? For guitar I'm hoping that this and other free software will do me for a year, by which time I'll know much more about making sounds and will be able to choose better. But for bass, it's only got one amp model. I was hoping to link up VST amp models to a looper, and spend a lot of time creating improvised music with bass, guitar, and hopefully drum loops. There seem to be free VSTs for guitar amps if I can't use GTR Solo as a VST (which I think I can, but don't know how yet - I've been running it standalone). Looking at some of the reviews here, e.g. of the Pod X3, it seems that bass amp simulations can be very hit and miss, with some of them being good for producing overdriven sounds, and some of them not. I've got NI GuitarRig as well, and have found GTR3 to be much, much better for bass and guitar. The different models for bass are good, but the only one I ever use is the "SolidState" one, which is also the one that's in the Solo version. I can, literally, get nearly the same sound out of that as I can get live out of my actual head. It's brilliant. Ok so it only has one 'amp' model for bass, the SVT but that sounds great although to be honest most of my clean sounds just use the tube compressor.
