Hiperi0n Posted January 16, 2009 Share Posted January 16, 2009 Hello guys...i need an info..i'm going to buy today a fender jazz 1975 , it's black..that should be a custom color at the time...do you know if under the black finish there was a white one? because in the parts where the black is fading away there is the white...thanx to anyone will help! I've got a black 76 Tele I bought in 1980 with similar 'whiteness' showing through. I suspect it's primer or an undercoat. After the white, comes the wood. So prob'ly not a problem. Say they did 5 red ones but someone ordered a black - they would paint one of the red ones black right over the top of it. They also did that if someone made an arse of a finish. cytania Posted January 18, 2009 Share Posted January 18, 2009 A white undercoat on a black guitar sounds crazy, but this is a routine practise in paint shops. You actually need some white beneath to make the black coat seem properly black. What I can't say is if Fender did this in 1975 for the bass you describe...
