Whilst searching for info on Class D power amps I came across the Vestax VDA 1000.

2-channels, 500-watt each into 4-ohms, etc, or bridgeable at 100-watts into 8-ohms

all for £249.

Down side is that it's not rack.mountable.

Details at Vestax

Available here

I know you can get an Ashdown LG1000 for £40 more including a pre-amp whch I suppose makes the LG even better value.

Looks good. There's also this that's rack mountable with a similar power output but at a slightly lower cost - http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/sc/servl...rack=DIMENSION3

Interesting find but judging by the weight I would not think it is Class D digital.
I visited the Vestax link and as soon as they mentioned 'DJ' my perception of Watts turned from RMS to PMPO. I could be over cynical though :)
The first thing that came to mind for me was that it was probably 500 watts at 10% THD (which would sound awful). This is how most cheap "1000 watt home cinema surround" etc. systems are rated.

But, it's not quite as bad as all that, as down at the bottom they have the specs listed as:

Power continuous, both channels driven
4 ohm= 2~ 390W(1KHz, 0.5% THD)
8 ohm= 2~ 240W(1KHz, 1% THD)

The EIA power is listed as 500W; EIA is measured at 1%THD and a little bit differently.

Either way, I probably wouldn't go for it, tbh.

No, cynicism is justified...

From the specifications:

Continuous Power Output (1kHz, 0.5% THD):

Stereo Mode 390W+390W 4ohm / 240W+240W 8ohm
Bridge Mode 800W 4ohm / 490W 8ohm

* escholl got there first :) *
