Just to throw in something else here...I bought one of the Thunderbird NR reissues that came out about five years ago and the pots while rated/stamped 500k, when my tech measured them, they weren't even close to this.  

Consequently, the bass sounded 'middly', distinct lack of top and bottom. If you search here, you'll find an extensive thread detailing everything.
