A guitarist is auditioned and can't take a "no thanks"

Our drummer auditioned for a band and thought he'd got it. They then told him the drummer who had left had re-joined....shall I tell him that it was probably an 'ickle white lie?

Actually, the group before last, I did an audition and they said I was great but that their previous bass player had come back.

But then they contacted me a month or so later to say he had left again and did I still want the gig
