FT: FBass Alain Caron AC5 Fretless £3000

[color=#000000]Up for trade – an Alain Caron 5 String Fretless – the ‘king’ of fretless basses. [/color]

[color=#000000]I bought this from another basschatter a few years ago. It is a beautiful bass, extremely well made and lovely to play. The action is quite fast, and the neck is very smooth – I find I can really get about the neck quickly which quite surprised me given the range. The tone is great, particularly when you play with the pick ups and piezo – you can get a real ‘woody’ sound. The B string also has a lovely depth to it, and I find I can dig in and groove nicely.[/color]

[color=#000000]So why sell this fine beast? Well, it is not getting the love it deserves, really for two reasons:[/color][/font][/size]

[size=3][font=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]I am not playing it enough to get used to the unlined board[/font][/size]
[size=3][font=arial,helvetica,sans-serif][color=#000000]I find the controls are a bit too intimidating which means I keep reaching for other basses instead….[/color][/font][/size]

[size=3][font=arial,helvetica,sans-serif][color=#000000]So many knobs, and push / pulls! [/color]

[color=#000000]I am discovering that I like to keep it a bit simpler with basses, and focus on my playing rather than sculpting the sound through an EQ. I wish I could do it – as I know it’s a skill – but I’ve never really learnt! J[/color]

[color=#000000]Anyway it was in mint condition when I bought it, and it has only left my house a few times since – once to go to a studio, once to the SE Bass bash and once to a local jazz jam. So it is still in pretty much mint condition.[/color]

[color=#000000]I am interested in trades more than a sale because I do want another fretless, just one I don’t need to try quite so hard with![/color]

[color=#000000]In terms of the valuation, it’s a rough figure but I am more interested in the potential trades than exact value…. I would be interested in:[/color]

[color=#000000]Fretless 4 / 5 - preferably lined[/color]
[color=#000000]Fodera, MTD, Celinder, Sadowsky[/color]

[color=#000000]Basically looking for a good quality alternative which is a bit simpler to manage.[/color]

[color=#000000]I would prefer not to do international shipping (mainly due to lack of experience) but will do for the right bass. The bass has a really well constructed F-Bass case with it, so that will make it easier at least….[/color]
