adamg67 Posted September 25, 2015 Share Posted September 25, 2015 (edited) I'm getting my 5 string de-fretted later in the year, the price seems pretty good and I know the guy does good work. He's not planning to coat the fretboard with anything, but it will have round wounds on it and it's not going to get played to death. Should I be worried about wear and tear to the fretboard? brensabre79 Posted September 25, 2015 Share Posted September 25, 2015 Usually not too much - depends how soft the rosewood is but my fretless is uncoated rosewood, every 5 years or so it gets a very light sanding to remove the small grooves left by roundwounds. I was allowing myself to be swayed by things I read a while ago on, let's say, another popular but a bit US dominated forum (which I don't bother with since I got into Basschat). HowieBass Posted September 28, 2015 Share Posted September 28, 2015 Though it won't offer much protection against scratching you might try using linseed oil on the rosewood fingerboard as it does fill pores and hardens as it dries.
