The 60's The 60's went from the likes of Miki and Griff, Alma Cogan and the Billy Cotton Band Show to Sgt Pepper, Woodstock, Hendrix and Pink Floyd. The 'best' year in Jazz is often give as 1959 because we got Kind Of Blue, Mingus Ah Um, Giant Steps.TIme Out and The Shape Of Jazz To Come. Completely arbitrary. Every year is a great year and every decade a great decade. 'Music' is not just 'the Music Business'. It is and will always remain the greatest art form. cytania Posted June 3, 2015 Share Posted June 3, 2015 Prior to the 60s record companies saw music in terms of classical, light/swing music, songs from the shows and spoken word. Genres like blues, folk and country got little attention. In the 60s all these 'underground' musics burst forth and record companies ran round desperately trying to monetise them. But the artists didn't stay put. They began the 60s in a skiffle band, went rock'n'roll, went psychedelic and ended the decade as hard rockers. Or various other routes and combinations.
