Just saying Hi

Just saying Hi, Mid 40's short, fat and hairy, I've been playing since my early teens. Sort of retired now but still have most of my gear. Influences are many but Lol Tolhurst always springs to mind.
So this little lot is what I have these days.

Stentor 1950, first double bass I 've owned always fancied one and bought it off ebay for £250ish. I guess this is the one I play the most now seeing as it "lives" down stairs. Keep meaning to put some sort of pick up on it. Play it every day. I think it sounds real sweet but I don't really have that much experiences with DB's.

1965 Hofner violin. Nice condition and with the original case. Played thru a chorus or flanger sounds very Cure ish or New Order. Plays fast and is good for chords.

1988 Warwick Thumb 5 string. Bought in '92, this was my workhorse, retired now. like me. Still really good condition but has a few knocks and knicks (again like me). Found it to be very versatile. Clean sound recorded too.

Bass Machine 4 string fretless. It was cheapish, can't remember when I got it, just got it to try fretless stuff. Took to it strieght away and couldn't put it down for a year. In reality it's a bit limited tonally but did a fair passing of Pino's sound through effects (to my ravaged ear drums anyway).

These go through a Trace Elliot SMX 12, 4 x 10. I cant recollect exactly when I got this either. I think it was 93 but I'm not sure.

Anyway here's a quick pic, Nice talkin to ya.

I do have a couple of regrets.
1: Wish I didn't have to sell all the bass guitars I'd owned especially the early streamer with the pre amp on vero board! and the mid 70's Jazz bass.
2: Not attending the audition when the Cure were looking for a new bass player.

What am I thinking! Tolhurst was the drummer!, Dempsey was the original bassist followed by Simon Gallup So I have to agree. Another bassist that springs to mind was Stuart Morrow from New Model Army (Although he was probably the guitarist Doh!)

Simon Gallup is great too. Mind you, I've never been able to get to grips with playing the bass below my knees!!

Haven't really thought about it, maybe Clyde fron the Clint Eastwood "every which way" series of films, or maybe Bubbles from "trailer park boys". I'll give it some thought.
