Does anyone have or have experience with a BTB1405? I really like the look and I've had an SR605 before which I enjoyed playing but never really liked the look of it. I'm not buying anything without trying but its a fair haul from here to the nearest shop with one in stock so I'm trying to gather opinions first.

Not tried this model yet, but they do look beautiful! Have you tried any BTB's before? If you haven't, they're quite different to the SRs. Obviously still great build quality and sound, but I found that I really felt the 35" scale and the fretboard felt mega wide. Don't get me wrong, I didn't find the couple of BTB 5's I've played uncomfortable, just..... big I guess! As expected though, superb quality instruments.

There seem to be a lot of nice new Ibanez models launching this year, including a BTB1605, but personally I don't like the looks as much as the 1405. This is my favourite at the moment: http://www.richtonemusic.co.uk/products/ibanez_sr755-ntf_sr_5_string_walnut_and_maple_natural_flat.asp?gclid=CKyA7d__gsMCFRHHtAodMjQAwA :D

My son gigged a BTB 1405 for a while and really liked it. It is a great value for money bass. There is a cracker for sale at the moment over at Classic & Cool Guitars at a very reasonable cost. It comes complete with Hiscox case which is a very nice bonus. Tell Mark I sent you! :)

Having owned a gsr205, sr505, and lastly an sr1205, I can say I gave them a good go, and they all shared a comfort and playability that was superb, BUT, for me none of them convinced me sound wise! Including the sr 1205 which as far as I know has the same electronics package as the BTB 1405. However, as a balance to this I'm a huge fan of the Ibanez bass and currently own a BTB 1005, and it hits the spot for me tonally and playability wise albeit in a larger package to the sr basses I owned previously.
To sum up, I like the BTB design, but not the current pups and pre, they're just not for me, but there are many owners out there who I'm sure are delighted with their basses.

Cheers Pete

If you like the aesthetics but prefer the SR size/feel, there are a few SR1405T models about, which look pretty similar, just an SR: http://www.thomann.de/gb/ibanez_sr1405t_vnf.htm

 • 3 years later...

I felt in love to BTB at first glance ten year ago when I've heard my friend's performance. That was first generation made in Japan Prestige BTB with USA Bartolinis. Long time I have played with Dean, several LTDs and never been happy enough. Two years ago I've released  why I am deceiving my self and got BTB 1405 with Nordstrands Big Singles. Finally I have got instrument which love a lot. Check Steve Di Giorgio, he gave up his spectacular horny bass, and took BTB 1605, just took frets from neck.
