Upgrading Pickups and Pre-Amp

Hi guys.

I have two of these (one is de-fretted).

How would I go about upgrading the pickups and pre-amp? This is a really dumb question I know...

Also, can anyone make some recomendations about which pickups and pre-amps are best?

I am not looking for a partocular style or tone, just a guitar which is well rounded and has a flexible set of tones on offer.

I would also prefer a 3 band pre-amp, but can live with the current 2 band setup...

Any help apreciated.

If money is no object, I'd recommend John East preamps. THe U-retro would be perfect. You would need to drill one more hole, but I would hope that would not be a big issue for the extra functionality. It's no big deal. No different to drilling a hole in any old piece of wood. Just make sure you do it right, first time!
I just find the East preamps the most musical to my ears. Admittedly I have not tried everything else out there.

My philosophiy with mid frequency selection is ... why put up with fixed mid frequency (or two or 3 switchable frequencies, like an Audere or an Aguilar for example) when you can have a proper parametric mids control with an East. I really do find I can tell the difference with only small tweaks of mid frequency.

What's the cavity like at the back ? Plenty of room in there ?

Hi guys, thanks for the input.

There is the usual ammount of space in the back, just enough but could be better... kind of thing.

I like the look of the John East pre-amps, they look great. I shall go with the U-Retro 4 to avoid more drilling!

Does anyone have any recommendations on pickups?
