"Send" is typically always an output "Return" is typically always an input. If you want to put the pedal in the effects loop of your amp then connect the amp's send to the pedal's input and the pedal's output to the amp's return. If you want to put the pedal in front of your amp connect your bass to the pedal input and the pedal output to the instrument input on the amp. tauzero Posted February 22, 2014 Share Posted February 22, 2014 You may encounter a problem using an effects pedal or multifx in a send/return loop, as the signal is somewhat higher than the output from a bass so it can overload the effect. [/quote] Because the effects loop will generally be after the pre-amp and EQ section of your amplifier. There is a lot of debate about where certain effects should go, but arguably some effects sound better before the preamp section, and others after. [/quote] Some effects, mainly rack-mount units, are designed to be used at line level. Stompbox effects and multifx won't necessarily distort if used at line level but it is something to be aware of.
