Hey guys can you tell me what makes a cost effective amp? I currently own a schecter 5 string Diamond series and my current amp (an oldie being a "Laney session 75 bassman" amplifier cab combo) I would idealy be after an amp of this quality http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/fender-rumble-60/10733, that my college use. But am trying to stick to a budget ideally less then that, something that would hopefully have a headphone output and ideally a PA output. Sadly i've only had chance to try these to amps and a few peavey practice amps.
Any advice on amps in general is most welcome, help the noobie please guys hahah :)
Thanks
Cliff

I'm in Aus- so what U have available & costs are differrent in UK. Look into either Ashdown 5/15(100w combo) great li'l combo IMO. Or a Nemesis combo-made my EDEN & are WELL respected in bass circles!! Both good products. 2nd hand would be MY guide too! Hartke make great gear also & can be had a great prices atm- they make a great kickback combo(a couple actually) but at the current prices for 2nd hand Hartkes U might find a good value head & cab for as cheap as a combo-but with the added value of being able to upgrade/swap around spkrs/heads at a lter date or just when suits

Hey mate, if I were you I'd have a look round the items at the for sale section within your budget - there's always something good running at a really good price!

Maybe something like this?

You can't really go wrong with trace elliot in my opinion. played a few and my mate's band have one, i've been nothing but impressed. good name for quality, hard as a bad of nails too.

Hello, I have played combos for years due to lack of transport options- yes, I have occasionally been spotted gig bag on back, wheeling an amp laden trolley old lay style on and off the tube- and can recommend a few. It depends what sort of gigs you plan on doing, but I generally find my Ashdown MAG 300 has enough power for most small to mid sized venues I play at, and any bigger venues need DIing anyway, which any decent combo will be ready for. Ashdown are great- pretty warm sounding. I also had a Roland DB500 for a while which was very punchy considering the sound, and versatile too. I have recently acquired a Trace Elliot 715 which is a lovely bit of kit, great tone, a bit livelier than the ashdown, and built in compressor too which is handy. Might consider getting rid of it though due to looming financial crisis and perfectly good Ashdown- I'll get it on the market thread if so, or you could PM me if you're interested in kicking things off. sh*t, didn't mean to turn this into a sales pitch!!!

I'm liking the Trace Elliot amps, i've played one in the studio and in the college practice room. Lovely tone. Also been looking into HArtke, thinking of getting as a speaker and maybe buy a head but this thread isn't about heads ^^ but if anyone would like to PM me :). I'll probably go into GAK to try the combos out.
Regards
Alex
