Not many about apparently. Was in perfect nick when I bought it, ooh about 18 years ago. £200 it cost me. I sold my first bass, a Westone Thunder 1A to afford this baby. Totally worth it. Has been gigged loads so looks a bit beaten up. Fenders look better that way I reckon.

Has the large Fender logo with squier series in small letters.

I do still have the scratchplate, maybe even the original screws. The only thing I can't remember really is the original knobs. I changed them for some reason, not sure why now.

Glad you like it. Funny isn't it. I'd only been playing about a year when I stumbled across this one. I remember being in the back of this shop. The Music Company I think in Crawley of all places.

My mate was playing guitar and I plugged this in. We played a load of Dazed and Confused by Led Zep. You know that riff that goes on forever in the middle. I had found a bass that didn't kill me when I played it all the way through. Had to buy it!

Assuming it's all legit, as far as I understand it, the early ones with those headstock decals are very desirable. I imagine that with such a low serial number, it will only help too.

However, that is all academic if you love it and don't want to get rid of it.

Mine has the large Squier logo but still reasonably low serial number. It has a tort pickguard. It is definitely not, nor will it ever be for sale, unless I fall on some seriously hard times!

Enjoy it.

Same as you there Huge. No other basses make me feel quite as at home to be honest. Definitely NOT for sale.

I think you're rght as well. There weren't many that had the big Fender logo.

Never thought I'd say this.

I'm picking up my Marshall Bass combo later on. The MB4210. I hope I get on with it. My Trace 300w 15" combo got nicked.

Will keep you all informed on how the Marshall performs. Nervous nailbiting till I get a chance to crank it up.....

ps. how do you all do that thing saying what you play and what through at the end of your messages? Signature or something is it?

I have an 82jv jazz (although not the fender logo, they are very early) i bought it 16 years ago, and it will come with me to my grave, fantastic basses, although i was naughty in my youth and changed bits(really wish id kept the original pickups, am thinking of getting nordstrands to get closer to its original sound, i have EMG jv,s in them at mo).
Hats off to early squires- all the best- lee
