The problem with the neck bolts loosening off must be a common problem.

I've not noticed it. It isn't common for me. I've got basses with the screws straight into wood and a bass with inserts. Also, you shouldn't overtighten screws - you'll knacker the thread that's been cut into the wood, rendering the hole too big to hold the screw properly. TIghten it up until it feels tight, but there's no need to go all Desperate Dan on the thing :)

I'm another person that's never had this happen in 35+ years of playing.

Worked in musical instrument retail for a while too, including UK distribution of a US brand where we thoroughly checked every instrument before they were sent out to dealers - that's a LOT of instruments & I've never come across it or ever had anyone mention it as a problem before.

Ive noticed this ever so slightly on my Jap Jazz. I've had the neck off a fair bit and I still can't get a action I'm happy with yet. The bolts on the next don't seem to tighten up as much as I like. Only time I've encountered it, ever.
