Set of used Spiro Mittels. I really have no idea how old they are but judging by the growl thee are less than a year. I found them on my Chadwick folding bass which was pre-owned and refurbished so I don't really have any info on the strings. The windings are pretty frayed as you can imagine given the regular winding/unwinding a folding bass requires.
Yet, a growly set of the ever popular Spiros at less than half price which will last another million years or thereabouts...

I was recently reading on a forum (maybe TalkBass) that the silk windings are actually of no relevance for the ability of a DB string to cling on to the winding pegs, they are principally for identification/looks. Thus the famous fragility of the silk windings on Spiros has no relevance to string life or integrity. Yet we all discount our used Spiros heavily as the silks are always in various states of frayed (same applied to the Danny Thompson Spiro-esque strings I have).

The moral being, this looks like an exceptionally good price for a usable set of top quality strings (THE jazz standards) even if they don't (based on Rabbie's description) appear fresh out of the packet. To put in context, new they are £125 inc postage from Thomann http://www.thomann.d...pirocore_02.htm
