Burg Posted September 23, 2013 Share Posted September 23, 2013 Hi all, I bought my first DB about 3 months back now. I'm loving it. I think my DB might be a 1/2 size though rather than the 3/4 it was sold to me as. Well, I'm pretty sure it is. I've checked the measurements against those on the Golihur site and they fit almost exactly with the 1/2 sizing. I'm wondering what to do about this. I do like the instrument, it has a nice sound and it plays well but will I need to 'size up' at some point in the future? And is this better to do now rather than later? I do sometimes find my intonation higher up the neck is affected by my fingers being naturally more spread out than the notes requires and the sound is a little too soft at times. henry norton Posted September 23, 2013 Share Posted September 23, 2013 Well if you like it and it works for you then I wouldn't worry. I use a half size sometimes and don't have any problems. Some people might tell you you really need to learn on an 'appropriately sized' instrument but even standard sized (3/4) db's vary quite a fair bit in scale length, rib depth, upper bout width, slope of shoulders, stand off height blah blah...... so if you're comfortable then stick with it. A 3/4 will likely be a bit louder and possibly sound a bit more complex but if you do decide to trade up to one from your 1/2 size you won't be at much of a disadvantage.
