New Amp

Hi guys,

I'm newish to Bass. But seeing as I am now in a band, and we are looking at gigging once we sort out our set list. So that little 20 Watt Ashdown cab I have, is a little underpowered.

So I was thinking about a new head, and cab set. And saw this

Is that worth gigging with, or are there better. Considering the quality of the last Ashdown, I would like to stick to the same brand. But if there are better, and around the £500 mark, I will consider getting another brand.

Both would be good deals. I`m of the opinion that once you`ve found a brand you like, unless you`ve heard or tried another brand and established it as being more to your liking, stick with the original. I`ve come to that conclusion after having spent many years (and pounds) doing the opposite.

Both rigs would be plenty to gig with. The Ashdown you know the sound, and are happy with it. The TC rig, well two 210s gives you portability, and the option of only using one cab at rehearsals, both for gigs.

In your shoes, of the two suggested, I`d stick with the Ashdown as you already like their sound, unless you have a way of trying the TC. However I`m not doing TC gear down here, I like it, as it`s very versatile indeed, and if I were ever doing session work, I`d probably have a TC rig for this reason.

Thanks for that, I think I will go with the Ashdown, for the same reasons you pointed out.

+1 to what Lozz said...try them both if you can. (I have, and bought something completely different!) they're 2 quite different sounding rigs IMO.

Personally, I'd be looking at a pair of 210's. With the 410 you're stuck with lugging ~40KGs of cab around, whatever the gig, but I'm a decrepit old thing with a dodgy back! (as are most bassist, it seems, who've lugged ~40KG cabs around for many years...)

Well ordered the Ashdown, and yeah it weighs as much as a baby whale. 10kg's for the head, and 37kg's for the cab...eeek....well at least it will keep me fit

37kgs isn`t too bad. Get a decent set of castors from ebay (as in, not the provided ones) and aside from actual lifting, just wheel it everywhere. I always used these, they made my cab faster than my car:

Would be cool, if they came on a bracket that I could use to sit the cab on, am a little wary of attaching them and then something going wrong and Ashdown refusing to service the unit, as I've bolted on none standard parts.

Suppose I could knock up a bracket, we do have a the tools in the house to make one.

A bit of Dexion and 4 castors can make something that aids mobility and the cab just sits in...

Was just going to get a piece of MDF, put a lip on it (some 1cm x 5 Cm planking) with some screw in angle pieces. Then bolt the Castors on below, think that should be pretty easy, if a little basic
