Getting started building effects

Hi Dave,

Due to being really bored, I've thought about starting to build my own effects. Probably quite simple things first, but I was just wondering if you had any tips or advice. Sure, there's plenty on the web, but I thought basschats own pedal guru may offer some more?!

Any thoughts on tools and things to get started? I'll probably pick up a breadboard firstly and work around with that...good idea??

Many thanks

Start with something simple like a fuzz or overdrive and that way you can improve your soldering and debug skills. A lot of the circuits on the web are wrong so you will have to workout how things are meant to be.

Kits are a good place to start.

I've just built my first effect - a byoc (build your own clone) confidence booster - it only costs £7.50 from their UK supplier (http://vibe-o-tronic.co.uk/), was a piece of cake to make and it has really given me the bug. I'm going to build a fuzz or nicer boost next. There's loads of help on the byoc forum and the UK suppliers have been great with my orders.

Good luck.
