Just an opinion, but I think a ramp is a bit of a pointless gimmick.

Your technique should be good enough to make a ramp superfluous, and you should be able to play hard or soft without hooking your fingers under the strings anyway.

Quite frankly it's this kind of attitude that holds up a player's development. When it comes to technique there are no shoulds or shouldn'ts. Did Jaco Pastorius and Stanley Clarke stay playing root notes because that's what a bass should do. No! They thought outside the box and moved bass playing on by miles in a very short time.

I don't think anyone can argue that Gary Willis and Matt Garrison are among the finest bass players of the moment. Both use ramps. That is what they choose to use as it suits their playing style. Not everyone needs or wants a ramp. They will always be used by only a minority.

Don't get stuck in dogma. That just holds up development.

The ramp by itself does not improve right hand technique and allow you to play with a lighter touch. Dynamic range
and technique come from the players hands, not the ramp.

the ramp didn't make my technic, but improved it in such a way that i would made one for any new bass i would have.
