jimwin
Hi there. Recently entered the world of pre/power amps. Have got a Sansamp RBI pre-amp and am temporarily running it through a Hartke LH1000 to power my Bareface S12t. Sounds great - but Hartke is soooo heavy - looking for something light and as powerful. So far landing on a Peavey IPR3000 or Crown XLS 1500. I cannot find the Peavey anywhere - late November according to Peavey UK. What are thoughts on the Crown? Seems light and powerful. Budget around £400 Any other suggestions. Thanks for any input Jim Edited September 10, 2012 by jimwin
Ed_S
I've got two of the Crown XLS 1500s that I use for PA duties these days, and they are indeed light and powerful. I actually bought the first to use in a rig with an RBI and my S12 and it sounded good; I certainly don't think you'd be disappointed. Happy Jack
http://www.soundindustry.co.uk/acatalog/W-Audio-1300W-1U-Amplifier-Horizon1300-AMP44.html I use the 1100W version. In terms of bangs per buck, it's hard to beat. Twin-channel and offers bridged, parallel, and stereo modes. Very light, doesn't run too hot. I normally use mine in parallel mode to power a Barefaced Compact + Barefaced Midget, both at 8Ohms. Sometimes I use it in bridged mode to power a Barefaced SuperTwelve at 4Ohms. One day, I'll get the chance to use both Ch.A to power the Compact + Midget stack at 4Ohms and Ch.B to power the SuperTwelve at 4Ohms. I'm quite looking forward to it ... WinterMute
I bought an XTi1000 on ebay for £250, it's 1400w bridged into 4 ohms and I'll be using to to power my Big Twin T once it arrives. It's light and very clean.
Walker
My XLS 1500 Drivecore is in the F/S section at the moment. I ran a Bass Pod XT Pro in front of it and also my Sansamp PSA 1 - both bridged into a pair of Vanderkley cabs. Both sounded immense but for several reasons I need to shift some of my gear. The Crown is light and very powerful. As Ed S said, you won't be dissapointed.

Not quite the 'bang' I was after for my buck :-)

jimwin
Thank you all for your responses. Ideally I would like the Peavey but can't get one anywhere (apart from import from US). Walker - may PM you re the XLS. Thanks again - Jim
