just started to upgrade an old taiwan made yamaha bb300 (my first project)

put better p style pickups in
ugraded to paper in oil tone capacitor

it is better but still needs work as the sound is ok but not good enough

the neck is cheapish and the body is sometime of composite wood

I am thinking of putting a better quality neck(£50 ish- seco etc) on
before i think of the body

I need the sound to be fatter more of a 70s p bass sound

any thoughts?

What pickup did you upgrade to?

Was it an straight replacement? My BB400s has a proprietary reverse P in it that has a plate around it, changing the pickup meant I have to get a scratch plate fitted.

I put a Wizard P pickup in mine which is a tiny bit hotter than the original but not much.

i put new axesrus (10k) pickups in,they do sound better and a new capacitor on the bb300

this is one of the last models which was made in taiwan and not japan, hasnt an alder body and i feel a cheaper quality neck,it defo is not a patch on a mighty mite neck i have had before, which a used on a jazz style body.

i had another try this morning and it sounds better with the tone rolled off and the mids pushed on my amp

but i still feel it is missing something
