Kramer Basses

Are there any Kramer bass experts out there? I have one of those aluminium necked Kramer basses, probably made early 80's but I don't know much about it and was wondering if anyone on Basschat could offer any help, also I'd like to sell it because it never gets used, so if anyone could give me some price guidance that would be great too.

Pictures to follow (when I get home from work :) )

here are some pics......

Nice looking bass.

It's one with active electronics isn't it? Make sure that they are all working properly and haven't been modified if you want to get the best price for it. Any issues with the electronics will need to be reflected in the price (along with the fact that it's missing all the knobs).

If I was going to be buying this I would want to see photos of the end of the body around the bridge, the back of the body and the back of the neck with particular attention to showing that the wooden neck inserts weren't coming away. I'd also want to see how much relief was in the neck as this can't be adjusted without shipping the bass back to the US where there is someone with the machinery and expertise to be able to fix any bowed neck problems on Kramer aluminium necks.

If you are going to sell, before taking the comprehensive (and good quality) photos detailed above, give the aluminium neck a good polish with brasso which will make it shine and will make the bass look fantastic. I'd also take the opportunity to check the fitting of the neck to the body - in your first photo it looks as if it's pulling slightly to the side of the E string. This can be fixed by slackening off the strings, removing the neck cover plate underneath which you'll find the bolts holding the neck in place. Undo these slightly and adjust the angle of the neck so that the E and G strings are equidistant from the fingerboard edges and the retighten.

Good luck with the bass whatever you decide to do with it.
