Vox amplug Bass/Pathfinder 10 Bass amp

Hi,

I've been thinking about getting a little plug in headphone thingy for practicing. I've seen the Vox amplug bass device and thought it looks pretty cool.

Has anyone used one of these? Any good?

A step up from that would be a small practice amp. I'm sick of lugging my TNT 150 upstairs inbetween rehearsals. Again, Vox do a nice little amp called the Pathfinder 10 Bass. I think both units have an input for an ipod or such device to play along with.

I want something small and light just for practice. Any other options?

I also have the option to use Garageband with the headphones in but I'm not totally happy that the headphones are safe when using the Bass through Garageband. The only 'phones I have are my hifi ones and they're £90 so I don't wanna damage them.

I use a Hartke A35 [[url="http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/product/4259-hartke-a35.html"]CLICK[/url]] and have done for a good few years now. It's handle means it isn't too easy to carry but since I started driving it's never been an issue (up stairs is fine, on a packed bus not so much).

It was the only small combo in the shop that actually had any bass in it. I've gigged with it on a number of occasions (drummer with technique, guitarist with a Epiphone Valve Junior) and never been disappointed.

PS. Looks like there's no ipod input on the pathfinder. There are stereo phono connectors on the Hartke.

I've got an Amplug, pretty handy because you can plug your mp3 player or laptop into it for learning stuff. Use mine all the time at home.

Well, the Hartke is £150 while the Pathfinder is less than half that, and price is a factor for me at the moment. I found other threads that mention the Amplug, but nothing on the Pathfinder.

MY experience with cheap bass amps is that they are usually even worse than cheap guitar amps.

If price is an issue, get an Amplug, I reckon.

Seriously, I've never been impressed with a cheap combo. Although YMMV.

I've tried the peavey max 158, and i've found it far superior to the pathfinder, which sounds like a cheap guitar amp with a bass through it IMO.

The Amplug I tried was dreadful but most people here are very happy with the ones they have tried / bought. I think the general view is thumbs up but a couple of others on here had experiences similar to mine. I've been toying with the idea of the Pathfinder 10 myself this week. Don't know why & interestingly I did a search on them here and nothing came back a few days ago. I don't think we discuss practice amps very much in general
