hi!

im not looking to get exactly robs sound but i love how his bass sounds go from just absolute distortion to beautifully crisp and clean and thick sounding bass!

im just wandering if anyone has any idea on what effects hes using to get these sounds in the vid?

im guessing chorus in the slow part? but is it flanger or phaser in the main riff? ive tried using my fm4 and got some bits near but anyone know what he uses? or shed some light so i have somewhere to start as the fm4/metal muff combo isnt quite right.

I had a quick squint on the internets, and found the following:

No mega detail, but a screenshot which shows the pedal set-up - neatly labelled, so you now know what he uses live!
The intro sounds kinda synthy to me. The first "solo" could be nailed with an ibby phat head. Second solo sounds filtered.
How many years later and he still cant pull this off. Sloppy :)
yeh i think its a few effects thrown together.

he misses the first bend! not sloppy imho! but please this is about his pedal setup/sound not his playing as if this is like talkbass i know where that leads!

merely an observation lad, the overall performance is off IMO. anyhu back OT theres god knows how many pedals linked in those drawers. i managed something similar to the intro sound today with a digitech synth wah and a boss power driver
Digi: Sens @ 1. Control @ 3-4. Range @ 7-9.
Boss: Level @ unity. Fat @ max. Muscle @ min. Drive @ about 75%.

Hey

If anyone is looking for the For Whom... bass sound (and other Cliff lead sounds) then i've found you'll get really close sound with the Crowther Audio Prunes and Custard (new version with the bass switch) which gives a nice fuzz tone with a dial for bringing in modulation (a bit like a flanger crossed with an autowah), a great pedal and highly worth looking into.

Metallica are fairly sloppy, or 'loose' live in general anyway. Any band with Lars Ulrich on drums wouldn't really have a choice. I've seen them make a few big cock ups when I've seen them. Still awesome though.

That's just his Fernandes Gravity bass, I have a Gravity Deluxe 5 and that's the sound, excellent bass, highly underrated in my opinion.
