7. All, It's time for me to downsize my gear and get rid of a load of stuff that I don't use any more. All is in excellent condition. Serious offers only please. I take a personal cheque for payment only thanks. Or of course cash if you collect. The postage will be different for each item, so if we agree on a selling price then I'll add the postage on top. 8.
no, not unless you want to. and putting a compressor before a filter is not always detrimental....some filters actually become easier to control with compressors in front of them. of course, it depends on the filter and whether you are using both the compressor and filter properly, and what you want out of them. the short answer, i think, is that you can get a compressor pedal and put it after the EMMA if you want, but again if i were you, with that chain, i would leave the compressor at the end where you already have it. also, i hadn't noticed earlier, but you may get better result switching around the EMMA and the TCE pedal, so it goes distortion>>filter....generally, it will sound more pleasing this way, as the distortion will accentuate the filter, instead of the filter being lost in the distortion. however, that again is up to you and the only way to know is to give it a try.
Thanks for your input. Great suggestions guys. Had a velcro-pulling session and played around a bit with my board. I have the EMMA set up so I use it as a stand-alone filter and don't colour the sound with any distortion. The TC drives the BB to get a nice synth sound. Having had the TU2 at the front for ages, I'm finding it easier to mute the whole lot now it's at the end. The Sansamp is very quiet so I have no problems with noise into the amp. And having a tweak of the Alesis, it's sounding a lot better. I borrowed an EBS Comp from a mate and put it where I thought it may work best (i.e. after the filter) and there was no audible difference. In fact to my ears it didn't sound as good in that position. So I'll stick with the 3630 where it is. Nice bit of kit for £60. Don't know why it gets a bad rap? Cheers again, J
9. bump. Sorry guys no trades. Sales only. I'm "thinning out" my gear. I've got too much stuff and recent developments have forced my hand. I'll be posting more gear for sale soon when I can decide what I can bring myself to part with...!
10.
just dont put the compressor before the filter as you'll totally limit its effect in a bad way
Do you think I should get rid of the Alesis which goes through the FX loop in my GK and put a Comp pedal after the EMMA?
11. After much messing around and waiting around for effects pedals to be delivered, I think I might have settled on this order. Could do with some feedback to see what you think. AMP << Sansamp BDDI << TU2 << Bassballs << CEB3 << TC Vintage Bass Distortion << EMMA DiscumBoBulator << Digitech Whammy << Bass I have an Alesis 3630 going through my effects loop. I like it and it's very controllable yet would it be better to get a compressor pedal to stick at the front of the chain? Opinions appreciated. J
12. Boomstick Bottom Feeder Envelope Filter and Boss DS-1 Distortion pedal for sale. Have a DiscumBOBulator and TC Distortion that I use so have no need for these two. Both pedals have only been used once so both are in nearly new condition. Was going to build a second pedal board with them, but I don't need it. Bottom Feeder - £70+postage. DS-1 - £20+postage. Will sell together. Or make me a decent offer! Cheers.
13.
I dislike it. The blend knob has potential. Sansamp BDDI with blend at 11 o'clock and drive at 2 o'clock is todays favourite flavour of overdrive.
Both have good qualities. ODB3 for grind. But I do favour the Sansamp at the mo. An expensive pedal I'd wanted for ages, tried others, then took the hit and just bought one. Great!
14. Ta for that cheddatom and dannybuoy. Monsterous suggestions both. I'll keep exprimenting.
15.
Couldn't resist. Boomstick Bottom Feeder surrounded by DS-1, ODB-3 and Sovtek/EHX Muff... Would you stick any of them in the exsiting board?. Or do I start work on another one? I've put them in order as I've planned - R to L. Any suggestions guys?
UPDATE!!! Now the order is TU2> Sansamp> DiscumBoBulator> CEB3> Bottom Feeder> TC Dist> EHBB Sansamp at the front just levels everything out. Take the DI out of my GK. Roll off bass and treble and add mid on my Status. Kubicki mind is a different kettle of fish - have to really roll the bass off when in active setting. That Bottom Feeder is just a whole lot better then the AW3. But there's space again on this board.
16. Jenni Tarma. Currently playing for Kylie Minogue on her recent tour. She's played for Mel C, Har Mar Superstar, had auditions for Smashing Pumpkins and used to play for my mate's band Ray in London. Really nice woman as well. You can see her on page 75 of the current Bass Guitar Magazine. Endorsing Elites strings. www.jennitarma.com www.raytheband.com
17. I'd sack it for the time being and give a reason. Isn't playing music all about having fun and tapping into the creative side of your lives?. We all - at different stages in our lives - have bad times and good times to put up with. And we all need a release. Music. Songwriting. Playing bass. Buying basses. Changing effects. Looking at other people's gear. Making contact. Making contacts.... All these things are why we do what we do. Whether they're a hobby or pay the mortgage. The beauty of being able to play an instrument is that you will always have a connection with someone. But never let it ruin your relationships - personal or otherwise - because of it. I've been through countless bands with countless musicians. Some good. Some bad. Some terrible. Yet the relationships have remained. Have a short break. Be nice and tell them why. Then come back to it when you're ready. That's my 2p
18. In the words of Marvin Gaye, I've heard it through the grapevine that the man himself Jon Shuker will be appearing on ITV Yorkshire's Calendar news programme next Thursday 26th June. All about his guitar and bass building course and showing off his brand new workshop. Get tuning in. Sounds interesting. And you can see it on the ITV Local website for a week afterwards apparently.
19. This is my tale of joy and woe... I had this made in 2000 after getting an inheritance from my uncle who died that year. He worked in the theatre so thought it was fitting to get a bass made for me with the money. About four years or so later, I was frighteningly skint and with heavy heart waved bye bye and sold it to pay off some of my debts. So move forward to last year and it appeared on a Status forum. The guy was selling it for a great price (but knowing it was the one I had built I'd have paid more). So I got it back. And the one that got away - around 1988/89 I had a medium scale Jaydee in red (Mark King model as I can remember) that was nicked from my school. Love to know where that went. I'm sure there can't be that many medium scale Jaydees around?
21.
What does the discombobulator do? If you bought a small tuner that would fit ontop of the psu, you might be able to squeeze an exp pedal on there for the boss wah - I love the range of possibilities this gives you.
It's - up to now - the best envelope filter I've played. Re: Exp pedal. You're right, but then I wouldn't have the mute facility the TU-2 gives me which is very handy. And the flashing lights.Or would I.....? Don't get me started again. I've just ordered a Bottom Feeder to build another monster board of funk around...! That'll be driven by a DS-1 into a Sovtek Big Muff. Out through a ODB3 set for a little bit of grind. And probably some other stuff when I get my hands on it....! Intoxicating stuff this pedal board building.
22. All finished for now. BEFORE AFTER NICE AND PROTECTED In the light The Emma pedal kicks.
23. Thanks for that. I'm not especially tall, nor is the bass particularly small. Must be a trick of the camera....(?). We had dozens of pix taken that night - they're great keepsakes as well letting you see what you REALLY look like onstage!! Not my rig by the way. It was the other bass player's Ampeg top and 4x10. It was rocking indeed.
24.
Great looking bass! Looks walnut like two of mine
Well spotted. Absolutely right. It's got a figured walnut top. Sounded great through the huge PA that night.
25. My band Idlefish (and my Status) supporting Harrogate's biggest band D-Nile in front of 1000+ people at the Royal Hall.
