...up until recently he played Fender American Deluxe Jazz basses with the bottom horn sanded down quite considerably...

That was his Custom Shop Jazz. They basically removed the lower horn, giving it more of a Jaguar style lower bout and moved the neck and bridge so that the headstock was further away from the body. I think the only other 'non-standard' bit was a block inlay at the 12th fret with dots everywhere else

I used to love mine, and was more than happy to suffer the pain of moving it, and the deafness after gigs - hey, you're indestructible when you're 25...nowadays one would be uttely pointless with my tinnitus as I couldn't really turn it up much, and since I moved to in-ears I wouldn't go back anyway - being able to hear yourself properly is a new and addictive experience.

    Don't listen! It's a trap! :hide:

  3. I love my 810 and 610 cabs... I can see the advantage of the lightweight gear (and did start looking into getting a lightweight 'backup') but my favourite setup will always by my Ashdown CTM 300 through a big cab ;) But I am only 21 so got a few years of lugging this about yet! Even though my chiropractor already says that my back is on the way out!

  4. Bought a Dimarzio Model P/J set from Simon.

Great communication and well packaged. Posted very quickly. Would certainly recommend him to anybody looking to buy something.

    Also seems very friendly!

    Top seller on here :)

What is Bitsbox like for delivery times and reliability?
I ordered the jack plugs in Sunday Morning and they arrived on Tuesday so can't fault delivery time! This is my first purchase from them but my father has used them for a couple of years for odd bits here and there (probably about 50 orders over the last 2 years) and I think they have only 'messed up' once when they sent the wrong size of something and were happy to exchange it

  6. Can anybody comment on the difference in sound between the ceramic and Neo versions of each of these pickups? Really interested to try these in my current Jazz bass build as I am already trying out a set of Dimarzio Ultra Jazz and a set of SD Quarter Pounders once it is finished

    Hey Kevin,

Yes it seems as though a sleeved version was sent instead of the standard rack one doh. This is easily rectified though as once out of the sleeve its the same head it just needs a lid and rack ears which we do as a kit. I can get a kit sent to you asap and its a very simple 10 min job to convert it then you should be sorted. As an apology for the hassle I would like to send you an Ashdown T shirt and a free Dr Green or Ashdown FX pedal of your choice...

Let me know if this is ok and apologies once again, gremlins in the warehouse!

Curious to know who this is... I'm guessing either Lee or Dan... Leaning slightly more towards Lee

    Great guys at Ashdown!

  8. I started looking into going for Lava plugs or George L's for the small form factor. I then found a guy on here selling some patch leads already made up with the 'pancake style' plugs and Van Damme cable so opted for those instead. I have no decided to replace the rest of my patch leads with the same, so bought a loads of the plugs for somethings like 89p each from Bitsbox and a few metres of Van Damme cable from evilBay for less than a fiver and will be setting about soldering them up in the near future!

Don't do what I did and get caught purchasing the premade cables with the pancake plugs that are on eBay; the sum of the parts is far less than you will pay for these premade ones

the only amp I will NEVER sell is my CTM300. It's the most amazing head I've ever used and the tone is sublime, I can get everything I want from that head tonally and it doesn't freak live and studio engineers out by having no DI!

Surprised that not all your artists use the CTM, I appreciate Sir Paul's back might break lugging it about but it's without doubt the best amp tonally I've ever used.
I second all of this!

I love the CTM 300 to pieces and cannot wait to let it roar with my new band once we get gigging. Just need to get my flightcase sorted for it and find a way of getting it in the car alongside the ABM 610... Which should get a priority seat; my CTM or my girlfriend? :P

  10. I have been led to believe by Mark (the owner of Ashdown) that they do not actually endorse bands the same way that other manufacturers do; everybody who plays Ashdown (where it isn't already at the venue/gig etc.) has had to pay for it. They may offer some form of discount for artists, but there is still a pricetag that needs to be paid.

Ashdown do 'loan' stuff out for gigs and to bands (see the B-Stock sales they have done in the past)

  11. Ashdown have quite the following (John Entwistle, Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro, Arctic Monkeys, Black Stone Cherry, Buckcherry, Paul McCartney and Paramore to name a few of their highest hitters with other 'big pop acts' using them such as Rizzle Kicks who get to play festivals etc as they are on Radio 1 a lot). Although many people will not see these guys as 'the best of the best' in the world, they are all touring (other than The Ox obviously) and playing festivals all over the world.

The OP is regarding the Isle of Wight Festival, which had Ashdown artists on the main bill. The fact that this festival is in the UK helps as they are a UK company and have been known to provide backline for their artists at these kind of events. You would have noticed the same at Download this year and will notice it again at Glastonbury.

throwoff did hit a point of the price not being high (although tell that to my bank account after the funds for my CTM were whisked off!) but the sound is great (IMO of course). Sure, there are better sounding amps, but not in the same price bracket or available 'off the shelf.'

At the end of the day, these bands get to pick and choose what they use from pretty much any 'big name' in amplification and they choose Ashdown

  12. The finish on that bass is truly a wonder to behold. Love how the Danish oil brought the grain to life and added so much depth and character. Have you detailed how you apply it in any of your other threads? I would love to know how you get it so even doing the back and then the front without getting drips soaking over the edge.

    Again, a beautiful instrument :)
