So two ABM410s will be better than two mag410 deeps?

Possibly. Its all very subjective. If you are already using mismatched cabs (410 and 115), the two 410s will be an improvement on volume and tone.

I would go with the mismatched 410s for now and if you get a chance to try a matched pair, try it and see if you can tell the difference. Then try the other matched pair and see which you prefer.

You just have to try these things as everything is in the eye (or eat) of the beholder

  2. I got mine at the London Bass Guitar Show a couple of years ago and when I expressed an interest in the PRO 20s, the guy on the stand recommended the PRO 17s instead based on the idea that the 20s have a less linear attentuation. The 17s provide plenty of attenuation for me and I have worn them when both performing in and observing pretty loud situations.

    Hope that helps :)

  3. Hi,

I have the ABM 900 EVO III and have previously used it with the MAG 410T Deep. I used to gig with this setup, and as I am sure you are aware, it is a pretty good pairing. Two of these cabs would just get you more volume and allow you to get one into a higher position to hear yourself a bit better (assuming you are stacking them). I also have the ABM 810 and ABM 610 cabs. My 610 is MDF and the 810 is ply. Both of my ABM cabs sound better than the MAG cab, with the 610 sounding the best overall. I have not tried the ABM 410 enough to be able to give a clear comparision of it against the MAG 410, but it is a nice sounding cab. I would image that it is a bit sturdier and probably a bit better sounding than the MAG.

However, a lot of people will say that if you have multiple cabs, it is best to get the same cabs so that they match sonically.

If they are for the same price, I personally would go for the ABM, unless you want your cabs to match sonically and aesthetically.

This has got me very interested in the MiBass 2.0, although I might hang fire to see what they announce at NAMM first.

Likewise... Very interested to see what will appear at NAMM. The MiBass and the Drophead 15 are on my watch list for now

  5. The CTM 15 is said to be a little 'treble heavy' and clanky sounding. I have not tried the CTM 15 myself but I have the CTM 300 which can do trebley and clanky but also beautifully round and full sounding. The clanky sound may just be the nature of the CTM 15 though.

I believe walbassist got to play with the CTM 15 quite a lot so he may be an authority on this little amp :)

  6. The Line6 G series wireless are great units. Worth paying for the quality with a wireless system as it is less likely to be plagued by the usual interference ascociated with wireless gear. Also, some of the cheaper ones are no longer legal (of course these are not likely to be available from shops) as the laws on which bands can be broadcast / transmitted on changed in the last couple of years

    Based on looks...

An amp isn't just to look nice at the back of the stage... If it sounds great to you and looks the part, brilliant, but unless your band or audience are listening with their eyes, go with what sounds best to you and with your band.

And just a heads up, you will likely get a lot of people saying that having 2 single speaker combo amps under 50 Watts is still not going to cut it with a band without some pretty good PA support.

I had hoped it would be here Friday, but probably next week now as the bank messed up the transfer :(

Well that was lovely of them! :( It will be worth the wait I'm sure!

  9. Contact Ashdown and ask who they recommend in your area. Alternatively, they have offered some people a 'serviced while you wait' service for some problems if you make the trip to their headquarters near Essex, but I don't know how often they offer this and for what issues

My practice amp is an Ashdown EB 180, one 12" speaker. I use it for rehearsals with my 5 piece band and for gigs where space is at a premium. I had to use it at last Saturday's gig as it fits beneath the keyboard of the pub piano, there was nowhere else for it! I picked it up used for under £100.

Obviously, it doesn't have the satisfying depth that my ABM 500/Barefaced Super Twin produces, but it still gets the job done when necessary.

+1 for the Ashdown EB 180. I have the 15 inch version and love it for practice and jams.

Well...I use it for practice when I get told to turn the ABM 900 and 810 down ;)
