Al, you are right for a bass player that likes low b string tones. If only the bass goes low... I am your opinion. If guitars or keyboards paticipate down there... I will solve it with a powerchord that will be heared better 🙂 But there's nothing wrong with a cool 5 string!!!!

I went 5string and back. It makes sense when you REALLY need that extra string. 25 yeras back it was cool to have one. If you needed it or not 😛 But after returning to rock 'n roll... I don't miss a low B. Had bands for this (played a lot of Gothik rock!) but I always hated it because du to drop down guitar tunigs and even 7 string axes... I lost interesst in ultra low. When I play a 5 string - and I do have a fantastic LeFay Waran 5 , I want to feature the low B string.. this distracts me from playing "free" because I want that B string... 😛 Silly me! 😄

I choose white for my own bass creation but did find gold "too much" back then for it. It recieved black hardware. I love that thing live because it lights up even when you are not in the center of the stage.. That's why I got disenchanted with black basses. That's also the reason why I do a lot of stuff on top of my 1000's... black is not visible on most band live pics .. 😉

That depends on the colour of the bass Al ! But what do you have? Edit: Played a Spector Euro 5 in the Musicstore Cologne last year and I can understand any enthusiasm for this basses. They sound like a dream. Typical American EMG noble bass sound!

The cool think is that it sound like a warm Alembic tone 😍

I think it's only fitted with alternative pus (humbuckers) looks like a typical BB shape for me. New pickusp and a Musicman electronics control plate . Better so be seen here.. Louis Johnson bass live

We don't have Photoshop at home and the result is not as good as Luke's visions but... This is more or less what my 1000 shall look like. Hardware will be gold then. Doing this in the pic absolutely exeeds my skills 😛

Just found something I did some 20 years ago when the BB1000MA was quiet new to me.. just a diy-production and a little bit floppy.. the pic shows the bass during the recording. Damn, I wonder what amp I did use back then...it must have been a Trace AH or maybe a Warwick ProTube or ProFet.. I remember the drummer used to amp up his drum kid in the rehearsal room that loud, that I sometimes was standing in front of my cab wondering if it went silent... 🙈 🤣 We gave up the project 'cause we could not find a singer that could cut through that sound... this was one of the smooth songs 😉 Song featuring Yamaha BB1000MA

Well, with a 5string bass I could imagine that the active circuit of the 735 is a good thing to have !

It is a bit unusual to compare a 4 and a 5 string plus from different periods. But nice to hear both basses though! It does confirm my feelings I have for the oder range. The 414 does "my tone" a little bit better in the video for me. And I have to say...I love the old, bigger shape way better but...I am bigger too... 😛

In my opinion too much for a BB 300 without the decals ( why do yo do such a thing?) It does not look good in any way! Knobs....🙈🙈

I don't think so because you can see the pole pieces of the pickups if you watch the video in the fullscreen modus... but I might be wrong here I think I remember him talking about an Aguilar preamp ? (In the video that I am still searching for)

By the way...this 1024 sounds FANTASTIC !!! 🥰 I just put on fresh steel's on one of my 1000MA'S... used nckels for a time now..but had a set of D'Addarios in an box somewhere... man this is piano string ! I'm in love with that bass ! I need to have it. Oh, it's already mine ❤️

This is not THE video I was referring to but in it he is playing a black 1024... Still searching for THE vid.. (go to 3:08 min) Edit: Well actually it already has he reversed pickups! So it is the 1024 !!

I saw another video of the guy where he explains that he is playing a modded 1024 or 2024. Too be honest I only remember that he said that he changed the pickup's (and the electronic's ) but I can't remember if it had already the reversed pickups. But I'm sure I can find the video again. So I think it should be a 1024 or 2024 where he changed the pu position - the custom made pickguard supports that thought.. 😉
