1. Sold pending the usual, and shortly starting its voyage to Greece!
 2.
I just deleted a post. Distraction!! Yeah I had a day off yesterday and spent much of it doing the same thing. And I've got cat-hair (same cat) all over my carpeted Bag Ends and Trace MK IV head. Ah, domestic life... who'da thunk I'd be living it... Off shopping with the kids. Peace! Good luck Chris, and show us what you bought man!
Cheers Count I'm probably gonna need it, will keep you updated.....and good luck with that cat!
 3.
Over here we call it "bottom-feeding"... Didn't mean to presume you don't have your amp set-up together Chris, just reviewing a little procedure. You know, for the rest of the guys...
No presumptions assumed Count.....although i am relatively clueless at setting up an amp, so all advice graciously received
 4. So i should throw it all away and replace with trace gear?! hehe cheers for the setup tips count, not far from the way i set things up already but always good to know how to tweak.
 5.
I think we have stumbled on the problem Sir!.... possibly The DDT on some Peavey amps is really very harsh and comes in like a wreaking ball. Turn it off and the amp clips, you can't win. Its designed to protect the amp and speakers thats it, most unmusical. I had a real nightmare with one at a rehearsal room. When I comes in you loose all the oomph! (low end) What you need to do is really pay attention to your input gain. When you are playing check if the DDT light comes on. Even if its not it comes in waves so it may be limiting. So try turning your input gain down a bit. They are nice amps and very underated if you can get around this little feature.
Unfortunately i never have it turned on! i have played around with it before but as i never really drive the amp that hard i have never really needed it. What i am loving most about this thread (alongside all the info of course) is my now slowly rising gas for a barefaced compact, after doing a fair bit of research i think its time to place a topic in the wanted section!
 6.
Oh yeah turn it off!!
Turn off the DDT?
 7.
I reckon so, don't see any reason why not. Does it have the built in limiter DDT protection or something, that lots of Peavey heads have? I reckon you'll probably clip the head before the cab.
yeah its got the ddt protector thingimy, think i can only run 300 watts at 8ohm's anyway so shouldn't be a problem.
 8. must admit you only seem to hear good things about barefaced cabs, will my amp be a descent match for a compact?
 9. Well everything taken into account (and wow a lot to take in!) i have decided to update my cabs....so my next question, what cabs to get? I really liked the flexibility of having 2 2x10s, for transport reasons, and also i could just run one at a time in smaller venues. The style of music i play is Irish/Celtic, bluegrass and country, and no drummer to contend with either so all i really want is a nice clear warm tone, with some punch....is that asking for much?! As far as budget goes i guess around the £500 - £600 mark, i know there is plenty for sale on here but as i know so little about cabs i barely know what i'm looking at! Any suggestions would be really appreciated (as is all the info provided so far) Thanks in advance, Chris.
 10. "trust me the pictures do this guitar no justice dont let this one get away"
 11.
But wasn't it at the jam session, using the "house" bass combo, that he was happy with his sound?
yes it was the outside jam with the combo when it sounded great!
 12. Wow lots of info there! Well i have had a good chance to play around with my amp this weekend, gigging in a couple of very different venues, and in a rehearsal situation and i am still at a bit of a loss, still can't get that "oomph"! A few of you asked questions so i will try to answer them now My bass is a precision with emg's. The jam session was outside, combo was on a concrete floor about 10 feet away from a rear facing wall. When we sound check i use a long lead and go into the crowd to hear the true represented sound. My cabs are front ported. One further thing, its only a 3 piece i play in, no drums, just either Accordion/guitar/vocals, banjo/guitar, fiddle/guitar, so its usually pretty easy to get a balance. I'm starting to think i was just settling with the sound i have got used to, and now im looking for a sound that wont be achievable with my current setup, and if i shell out on some new cabs/amp etc am i possibly throwing money at a problem i can't solve?!
 13. all pms replied to,no trade offers really tickiling my fancy, bump for a purty precision.
 14.
Try this for your EQ; lay off the bass, add a little top and boost the mids. The aim is to balance the boosted the mid range while not completely killing the bottom end. Your 410 will give you more potential for midrange punch than 90% of the 15's out there so don't worry about your cabs. Does your amp have a gain and master volume? Try to add punch by running the master as high as you can and balance the overall volume on the gain control. Better speakers would help. There are Eden, Aguilar, Epifani and Bergantino cabs in the BC For Sale section. Any of these would improve your sound 1000%.
No gain and master volume, but a pre gain and a post gain (which im guessing is gain and volume just relabeled?!)
"Just a 4x10" ... that's really quite a lot, y'know! You can shift a lot of air with four 10" speakers. Until I saw this, I had read your original post as meaning the pub had something like a 1x15 combo. If a pair of Yamaha 2x10's are sounding that weedy, but only when compared to a 4x10, then don't spend ANY money until you've followed some of the suggestions (above) about your EQ. Almost certainly your current rig is capable of giving you more than you're getting out of it at the moment. Try explaining the problem to your band mates, and ask them if you can all devote one rehearsal to experimenting with your rig.
Will do, time for a well overdue tinker by the sounds of things, thanks for your comments chaps
 15.
Get a Sansamp BDDI, stick all the knobs at 12, including the blend, and be surprised how 'ommphy' it makes anything.
i had an active eq on my bass and its pretty potent, that said though I have heard good things about these.
If you're only using 10"s at the minute, see if you can borrow a 15" for a practice/gig and check the difference. It might not fill ALL the low-end (as College says, having had a 210/115 setup), but I feel like I'm missing a lot of 'wallop' without at least one 15" speaker behind me. Oh, and compression can make a big subjective difference if you're not using it already.
I know that a 15 would probably help, but this combo was just a 4 x 10!
Efficiency of cabs is a biggie. A combo tends to be designed for itself, and can be a real efficient rig even if it's not that 'powerful'. Also it might be how you're using your eq... lots of dialed in lows-boost does your presence and 'oomph factor' no much good at all (but you didn't say anything about that, I realize... just sayin'). You want low-mids for that oomphie thing! Maybe you need new cabs? The problem may not be the head at all- cabs are a huge factor, I'd say generally more than the amp head itself. Lots of modern cab/speaker offerings out there, and a few oldies are good as well. First thing I'd do though is look at your eq...
Although the cabs i have are pretty good cabs i think you may be right as far as replacing them goes, they seemed more suited to there matched head (no brainer i guess) so i think it may be time to start consider replacements, any recommendations? i like having 2 2 x 10s from a convenience point of view i guess, and only use 1 cab at smaller venues with a di or a 57 pointed at them. As for eq's probably time for some honesty from me......I have never really ever had a clue from a technical standpoint how to set up an eq i just play around with it until it sounds right!
 16. I recently played at a jam night with some lads im in a band with and i played through an amp owned by the pub the jam was at, it looked like an old peice of sh*t but sounded....well...really oomphie! I know im probably not making sense here but the stack i use had no where near the presence and clarity of this bashed up old 150 watt combo, so now im thinking of changing my cabs/amp or maybe both as this had really done my nut! any suggestions on how i can give my own amp and cabs a lift (peavey tour 450 head, 2 x yammy 2 x 10 cabs) or maybe suggestions for what new gear i might possibly buy next would be most appreciated.
 17. Thanks munkonthehill, dare i say yours is maybe even prettier than mine......well as yours isn't for sale yes i do!
 18. WOW! loads of trade offers so far...any more?!
 19.
Oooohhhhhh, lovely lovely lovely - haven't got the cash to buy outright, don't suppose you'd be interested in trade-plus-cash-your-way for a Bass Collection SB441 would you? I've got better pictures somewhere, I'll dig 'em out if you might be interested...
Not really my thing im afraid.
 20. http://www.parcel2go.com/ they even collect it from your house.
 21.
what sort of trades are you after??
Well i'm always on the lookout for the next thing i probably don't need! Probably more bass related trades but i'm open to whatever you might have....may also have the funds to add to a higher value trade.
 22. For sale/trade my cij aerodyne precision bass. I have owned this bass for just over a year and it is pretty much mint barring a small knock the the very top of the headstock which can be seen in the pictures. Ideally i would like to sell this but may be tempted by trades so let me know why. from a sale point of view considering i paid £500 for this and the case cost me £60 i was looking for about the £470 mark + post (but if your nearish to Northants i will deliver for fuel) if this price seems excessive please let me know, as these things are pretty rare its tricky to know what they go for, although a red one went on ebay recently for about 420 but had 120euro postage on it! this is a really nice bass and plays great but for me the neck is to close to a jazz (inch and a half at the nut) and i get on better with a p neck hence my reason for a sale.
 23. The front man in my band uses a similar setup, acoustic guitar, tenor banjo, five string banjo, fiddle and he go's through a little behringer mixer and uses a planet waves lead for each one with the mute switch on each head of the leads so he can mute each instrument not in use, i know that some behringer kit gets a bit of a bad rap but this thing seems pretty bullet proof and the sounds he gets from the onboard effects always sound really good, and you can pick them up for about 60 quid.
 24. Seems like a great idea.......and im quite intrigued by the benefits.....although im pretty sure i can foresee the pending abuse i would receive if i wore them at a gig
 25. not really my band as such just messing about at a jam session http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97XRxzfGdEQ
