1.
I ordered Seymour Duncan weather report pickups, and I will make an epoxy coat for the fingerboard
I'd be interested in those pickups you're removing, I had the same bass and those pickups were lovely.
2. Morning all, I'm now the proud owner (once it arrives through the post) of a s/h HB 500. From what I've learnt about the bass it's all stock so I'm looking at the future headache of all kinds of things to resolve (strings, pickup possibly needing a 180 turn, rubber feet under the bridge and pickup etc etc) so I can see myself being a regular visitor to this forum. The seller says there was damage to the bridge but doesn't affect playing but I'll be looking at a replacement at some point - only thing is the internet is low on suggestions for this, Eminence ones seem to be a good fit but they're expensive and require a little fettling. Strings are something I will be looking at so if your strings are still knocking about in a few weeks/months I may well come sniffing around Marc.
3. I just looked at the Gumtree one, lots of upgrades but with it a nice increase in cost, I'm looking at spending £250 ish and do the upgrades when I need to and if I want to. Some great comments though, thank you for taking the time to write this, the inner-tube tip sounds brilliant.
4. Been toying with the idea of getting myself a double bass but due to the bulk of them have settled on the idea of an eub, the Harley Benton one in particular (due to price and when I tried the Stagg I found it had a tendency to spin and I'm hoping the added 'wing' on the HB will prevent this). I recently lost out to one of these on e-bay but it's only made the temptation stronger so does anybody own one of these and have good or bad feedback about them? I understand the stock strings aren't the best so they need swapping out. Or, even better does anybody have one surplus to requirements they're looking to sell on?

6. I'll try and get along, nice pub that. My band are there the first weekend in December.
7. I own a Squier VM Jazz bass and after using the 'stock' pickups (the Seymour Designed ones) for a few years i decided to try something else and settled on a pair of Wilkinson pickups. I had a 'Vintage' jazz bass and the hardware and pickups were/are Wilkinson and those pickups were fantastic. The difference wasn't massive until played with the band and the change is evident. More volume and a little more bite and brightness. You can pick them up on e-bay for around £40 if memory serves. A good, not-too-expensive, option.
8. NOW SOLD Selling my trusty Fender Rumble bass rig, the rig consists of the 350w head, 2x8 cab and a 1x12 cab. This is the 'Mark 1' version, the later version has different knobs on the head and a grey coloursed gauze on the cabs. Originally bought from GAK (i think all in all it cost well over £600) in early 2014. Altogether this is a great rig, no damage, (surprisingly light) nothing missing or faulty and has been looked after religiously. One of the cabs and the head still has the red sticker that comes with it, so it's in great condition. The head comes in a snazzy padded bag, again, no rips, tears or broken zips Can easily make the walls shake and i think these have a good reputation among us bass players. Reason for selling is i'm not playing massive halls or venues so i don't need the oomph, so i've downsized. Any questions, ask. I'm based in Swindon but i work near Didcot (easy rail routes for those out of town) so a meet up can be arranged if easier. 9. My main bass is a 'cheap' bass, but it does what i want (and what my talent level requires) but i have a second bass that i muck around with that, all in all, after selling the bits i didn't want and buying replacement parts, cost me £34! I think the reason i like it is the neck radius, the neck is thicker than most P-bass necks and it suits me really well, it's also unfinished with varnish which again suits me because i like how it feels. Never having played a bass costing more than £1000 i can't compare it to higher spec basses but as a 'go to' bass it's perfect.

11. Brand new Vintage Precision-shaped Icon V4 I bought this from Gear4Music a couple of weeks ago but it’s not a bass I’ll be getting much use from, I like my Squier VMJ too much so this has gotta go! This is the ‘roadworn’ finish bass, has Wilkinson electrics and hardware, is fantastic in regard to build quality and the tone control gives that normal P growl but also a nice selection of tones. I’ve included photos of the neck pocket and how snugly it fits to the body. The neck is lovely, very slim and fast, probably helped by the lack of sticky varnish that most cheaper basses have. No problems with the bass, the neck is straight, tuners stay in tune, nice low action (it could go lower but I’m reluctant to do it as I’m selling it on) and it’s in the ‘out-of-the-box condition – still has the pickguard cover plastic on it. £170 and it’s yours Will be shipped, well packaged, in it’s original box. For some reason BassChat isn't accepting my uploads so the photos are here: https://www.flickr.c.../104533307@N03/ PHOTOS ADDED BELOW...
12. Photos added BUMP
13. I used to get a nice sound from my fretless, I used flat wound strings and used to play with my right hand on the 20th fret, this gives a nice growl but also doesn't twang brightly. Played without an amp it sounded superb, played through the amp took some fiddling with the controls, but it worked well enough for the untrained ear to not notice. *unashamed plug* that bass is for sale on this site if interested.
14. Bump (just because I cant turn off the underline command!!!)
15. For sale, my Vintage Icon4 fretless 'roadworn' jazz bass. This bass has been mine for about 18-20months and is truly a superb bass for the money, does everything a fretless should do and has some fantastic Wilkinson hardware and pickups. The only picture is one I took with my phone ages ago but the bass is in great condition, no bend to the neck and is strung with some smooth as silk roundwounds (I don't know the name of the strings but they are smooth and rather delicious!) Looking for £150 and no trades. I live in Swindon but work quite close to Oxford so a face-to-face exchange is possible, just chuck me a message. Other than that it'll be boxed and sent via RM recorded and tracked so add that on... £18ish??
16. Managed to pick up a second hand Jim Deacon from e-bay and the little blighter has arrived safe and sound from 'sunny' Scotland! The auction stated the neck had a split, and it does, but when I put the strings under tension to test it, it was ok, yes it has a slight bend, but it didn't shatter into a hundred shards of wood - it's now on ebay minus the machine heads. The bass is a dark pink with sparkly bits in it (so... um, metallic pink I suppose) and a mint green scratchplate. Overall i'm very happy, I wanted a bass that my kids could knock about and twist the knobs and keys without any worry of them breaking anything - including themselves - and, both being girls, they love the colour. Now just searching for a replacement neck and i'll be playing it. Not bad for a cheeky bid of £26!!
