  1. This has rapidly become bass of preference in my collection of 2. Euro5LX - My first Spector, but what an instrument. Looking forward to recording with it in a few months time. Been writing our latest album for over two years with it.

    Shot from Fridays gig

  2. Did a guest appearance at our local metal to the masses final last night. Not gigged since desertfest and whilst it was only a 30min set, nice to blow the cobwebs off. Matamp and barefaced combo with the Spector sounded great and got to crank stage volume a bit.

Gigs on hold for a while now until we've finished the next album ✌️

Hello! I Just bought a digbeth 500, received yesterday and played some hours to try some sounds and Feels.

I came from a darkglass alpha omega 900, i was looking for more vintage tones and a "tube-like" tone.

Looking in the used market i found some Orange ad200, some old ashdown abm500 for a good price. In the end i got some problems with my car and 1000 euro less in my pocket. With no expectation i ordered the laney, cheaper but good looking, hoping that the andertons demo was "real". In the end i am really Happy, i run it trough my old Dg 2*10 8ohm Cab, the tone Is awesome, volume Is not a problem, you can have a good clean valve tone, no gain control, but FET volume, tube volume and drive. In really Happy and i ll male this change 100 times over and over.

Hey, I'm looking at a 500 at the moment as a potential back up/ home piece of kit. Is the gain and drive on the amp volume pot responsive? E.g. Can you dial it in overdriven and clean it up to pristine by backing off the input?

    Thanks very much, ✌️

  4. Thanks, they're some really helpful considerations.

I'm unfortunately not likely to get a chance to listen and compare to be honest so will end up buying without listening. It is a small space, however I want to make sure I have enough head room to get a bit of volume out of them before they hit distortion.

Ill have a think about budget but really wanted to keep under the £400 threshold. I'd be prepared to go to £600 though if there really is significant difference.

In the meantime I'll have a trawl through more threads and take a look at some online retailers.  ✌️

  5. Hi all,

I'm looking at purchasing some active monitors for a light bit of mixing and home recording/ band demo work and wondered what recommendations anyone could offer for a set that are towards the budget end of the market but represent good value.

Secondly, I want to be able to use them for home practice when not using headphones. Does anyone do this? Does it work? I'm intending on using cab IRs as part of the preamp/ set up I'm putting together.

    My chain would be:

    Bass > effects board > preamp > cab sim > interface > monitors / laptop / headphones

Thanks for any help, greatly appreciate any experience and recommendations.

This is the current setup and for once I don’t think there is much that is going to change. May add a different pedal or two at some point.

The band I’m in is Black Atlas. We released an album a few years a go now and are finally getting round to looking at recording the second one.

Please buy another cab....you know you wanna.... 😂

  8. I went for a wet > wet amp set up last night, using the second head for more apocalyptic passages potentially on our next album. Sounds ace but a bit of work loading... This is pretty much all my gear. Tempted to get a 410...

Basses, rigs, artwork and pedals attached!

Main doom machine is my old P bass. Generally I tune to C sharp standard or drop B. Five strings are tuned the same but with an added high A string, so despite being used for stoner/doom they are tuned 'up' rather than down from a standard five string. Main gigging amp is actually the Mesa combo but used to gig the Fafner with a Trace Elliot 1x15 I gave to my nephew. I've had the V6 and Fafner for a about a decade each. Big Block and 6x10 I just got for silly money second hand in the last few years. Presently saving up for a 4x10 that is more practical than the 6x10!

Pedals are a work in progress. Not convinced if I like the voicing on the B3K. Unfortunately though I discovered this after I recorded a whole album with one...

Joined this band when I moved back up north.  Not toured like we planned because of Covid. When I joined we recorded an album with plans to tour more extensively but Covid hit and that touring is probably not going to happen, probably ever. The album was finished off during lockdown which unfortunately affected the final quality but it was either that or not finishing the album. Not really doom, just drop C fuzz rock. Currently on hiatus due to house moves, job changes/promotions and new babies, might be back playing later in the year.

Older band did a small EP that was more in a proggy melodic doom direction, production is rubbish though as it was meant to just be a demo and we split up before we recorded it properly. Has a bass solo on it somewhere. Frankly wish we had recorded it properly. https://khydra.bandcamp.com/album/skycrasher

Trying to record with my other band this year, but need to buy a better laptop so we can record. Will post something in this thread if and when we manage to record something.

Edit: apologies that the pictures are massive. I'm not sure how to make them smaller!

Some lovely gear! I'd love to try the Mesa 610 with the big block. That's an amp I've always coveted but never owned.

I'll try and soon some of your tunes over the weekend!

What's the green pedal on your board?

  10. Played Desertfest London on Friday. Absolute dream come true opening up the black heart stage. Room was full and we hit our stride pretty well I think. Sound, as always in that venue, was on point and I got my GT200 near enough to exactly where I like it on gain and volume through an orange 810.  Seemed to go down pretty well, and rounded off with a few pints and more bands. Been waiting for this one since 2020 so a blast to actually do it.

Very kind as always Mr Wilson :) hopefully catch you for a beer if you're knocking about on the friday? I haven't got weekend tickets unfortunately. Sunday is a ripper.

… could I please ask what is the benefit of the G3?

For me, I use it for parrallel blending effects, clean blend, gain structuring my pedals, midi control over the volante and MERIS, simple switching from really heavy to tranquil/trippy type vibes, and vice versa, together with trails. It also keeps my other pedals out the way and allows me to change the order of my pedals without rewiring eg wah into fuzz the fuzz into wah.

It also allows two amp set up which Ive used a couple of times.

Essentially it's the brain and makes my life a bit easier to concentrate on playing rather than pedal stomping

  13. Version final.1...

Changed out the TC HOF2 for the MERIS mercury 7. The HOF was really great and I enjoyed it more than my h9, walrus audio etc but the MERIS imo is just another level.

I don't really stack much, but order is:

Origin effects Cali76 bass Compressor always on into the G3

    Korg pitchblack Tuner

    Dunwich Wizard fuzz

    Does it Doom Walpurgis

    Parapedal Parachute wah

    Strymon volante

    MERIS mercury 7

Dunlop volume pedal (after G3 ATM)

latest version still need to book midi up to the sy200, also tried the pickle in place of my colorsound and honestly I prefer the colorsound but I’ve got one more thing to try at next practice. Also the loop blender has replaced my Tyler

How's that blender holding up Vs the Tyler? I've been intrigued by the Tyler for ages, and most recently for modulation type effects rather than dirt tbh. I wish gigrig would add the blend control on the G3 rather than just 50:50

How's the MERIS mercury 7? I keep being tempted by it but I'm struggling to justify the increase in cost Vs my TC HOF which I've managed to dial in to where I'm happy recently.

    Really Nice board. ✌️

  16. Has anyone directly compared a euro5lx and a dimension 5? Interested in any differences I own a euro and thinking about adding a dimension to the collection. Less likely if they're very very similar though. Thanks 😎

    Also Happy new year!
