  1. That Shaftesbury bass plays really nicely to be fair, and as stated by @Happy Jack the crack in the body hasn't gotten any worse in the 10 years I had it.

Good to hear you're pleased with it Jack - and nice to meet n chat over lunch too.

Thankfully no Rick related GAS has struck at the moment, I'm sure it's only a matter of time though 🙄

  2. Two gigs for me this weekend, first was with Siren at The Boathouse, Bradford-on-Avon on Friday night - turned out to be a busy night with lots of faces recognised from our previous visits. We played pretty much all of our setlist but were cut short when the new manager turned on all the house lights and stage lights at the end of a medley that we do, we took that as a sign that he'd had enough, and so the crowd that had been up for a party all night, were calling for more to no avail!?

A bit of a strange end to what had been a great evening really. Sadly no photos to share, as I was heading there straight from work I used my 'easy' rig, TT800, Big Twin II, Geddy Jazz with 70's P Bass as back up.

Saturday night saw Sarum's Lot play at The Devizes Inn in Salisbury.  We were asked to setup in the darts room. This was the exact opposite of the previous night where space was somewhat limited, so was a rather intimate set up for the drummer and me, leaving the guitarist to enjoy loads of room on his side of the room - in fairness to him he does tend to boogie and is much more animated than me!

The crowd were up for a good time from the off, loads of singing & dancing, even some air guitar!  This band plays classic rock covers and we were asked by a young lad whether we could do 'I believe in a thing called love' - we don't do it but duly had a go, and smashed it right out the park (even if I do say myself!). A thoroughly enjoyable gig with a great crowd - we all left buzzing 🙂

Same gear as previous night. Hopefully the links work😊

The return of Richard Davies & the Dissidents last night at The Beehive in Swindon. Wonderfully cramped and it felt like a proper rock ‘n’ roll gig. Good to blow off a few cobwebs ahead of tonight’s sold out London show.

I really enjoy playing there - great venue!

  4. Sarum’s Lot played Qudos in Salisbury last night, it’s one of our favourite venues to play, easy load in and parking, nicely run pub, well organised and most importantly very busy. Last night didn’t disappoint.

We’re a local band and I’d advertised it lots so was really pleased to see the place busy when we arrived and many more friendly faces turning up whilst we set up.

We played a few, new to us, classic rock covers and some slightly middle of the road pop rock covers that all seemed to go down well, despite one or two moments, there was  plenty of singing and dancing and lots of positive comments at the end.

Unusually for us we decided not to take a break as we wanted to get through as many of the songs as possible, so we ended up playing from 20:45 - 23:00.

I used my Geddy Jazz, TT800 & Big Twin II, sounded great in the mix (to my ears at least).

We’re back there in April and we’re really looking forward to it😁

  5. We (Siren) played at Tuckers Grave Inn near Bath for their annual Wassailing Ceremony.

Despite the cold the campsite was booked up around a fortnight ago, suggesting it would be a busy night - it didn’t disappoint!

We had people dancing to the soundcheck and to  every song we played thereafter.

I used my Oly White 70’s reissue P Bass for the first set and My Geddy Lee Jazz for the second, used my TT800 through my Barefaced Big Twin 2 G3 - sounded great to my ears! Loads of positive feedback afterwards which is always nice.

Next up for me is a gig with Sarum’s Lot at Qudos in Salisbury - one of my favourite venues to play so really looking forward to this one.

Yep 100% worth the 4 yr wait. Absolutely loving the tones from the Boogie channel. Its so good that my original intention of flicking between channels to go from a warm deep bass tone to a more Ric edge type tone has literally never happened. I just turn the tone up full on the bass and flick the Brightness switch and its all there.

No matter what bass i use it sounds great thru the TT800. So glad i waited and went for it as soon as exports to UK started again.

Mesa @agedhorse should consider putting the Boogie channel out as a single amp. Its that good and i think many folks with the TT800 would probably agree. I've only used the SW channel on one gig but loved the Boogie channel that much i tend to prefer that channel for everything now. I think it would be a big seller for Mesa.

That’s good to hear you’re chuffed with it, I know you’d been waiting on one for a long while, but didn’t realise quite how long…time flies n all that😊

Last nights outing with Emergency Exit punk covers band at The Dreadnought in Bathgate.

Love this venue with both bands. PA and lighting already in place with great SE's. Owner or Manager whichever is there on the night are both top guys and look after you really well and are so easy to get along with. Has to be one of the best run venues i've ever known.

Anyways the gig wasn't very busy maybe around 20-30 folks in. It holds approx 150 but they were all up for a dance / pogo almost all night from approx the 3rd song.

We did our usual invite to "Big Hastie" to come on stage and sing Into The Valley with us and as a treat we let him sing Hurry Up Harry as well. Just great fun.

From what folks were telling us including one of the SE's who was on his weekend off but came along to see us that Fri nights have been extremely quiet recently and tonight was fairly busy for a Fri night.

My attitude to quiet gigs is that they are just paid rehearsals.

Band played well altho guitarist had hand cramp a few times but he carried on like the trooper he is.

Only one more gig this year before the band takes a break and considers whether they want to continue. No ill feeling within the band but a personally a little disappointed. Guitarist has been doing it originally since 1977 but on and off over the years. Been constant last 16 yrs and i think he's getting a little bored with it. We'll get together in the New Year and see how folks feel about it.

I've only been with the band 3 yrs so i still enjoy playing the songs as they have so much energy and the band are all just really nice people.

Used my Sandberg MarloweDK into Shure Wireless and then the Mesa TT800 and SW 210 & 115 cabs. The Marlowe sounds amaing thru the Boogie channel on this amp. Every note is so clear across the neck but has a wonderfully warm deep tone with the flick of the Brightness switch i get a terrific edge for those more rasping type songs.

So happy with this Mesa rig, plus i can lift the amp with my little finger whenever needed

Hope you getting on with the TT800, Dave?

Not tried one of these, but I have had Marshall bass heads. Never seemed to be able to get the tone I wanted, they seem like one trick ponies to me.

Ampeg are also somewhat one trick ponies, but it's a much better trick.

I've still got my VBA400 - I love using it, but only use it sparingly now with my GS412 in larger venues, I do like the tonal variations available and wouldn't class it as a one trick pony - each to their own of course 🙂

Plus I haven't worn jeans with any material that could flap since the mid 70s, and if I was that loud I'm be even more deaf than I am already.

I've always worn slim fit/skinny jeans - in my youth I knew things were cooking on stage when I could feel the pressure waves on my jeans😆 - I used two Trace Elliott 4x10's and an AH300SMX.

No wonder I have tinnitus now...

  10. Siren played The Pig and Whistle in Melksham last night, I’d forgotten just how small the set up is there, I’d been feeling rough all day and had dosed up on the Lemsip Max Strength but still felt awful.  Tried singing but that was out the question about 6 songs in, so quite nice just to be able to play without having to worry about singing, a reasonable sized crowd was there, lots of positive feedback from the punters, rebooked for next year and home for about 12:45.

Always take a gig! Our new singer was on holiday so a friend from a band I depped in stepped up, as did a harmonica player. We just jammed it, great fun!

Otis Jay Blues Band, Flea Jazz into an Elf/Barefaced One10 combination.

    Looks a great venue 🙂

    No. That is someone else.

That sucks big time - when I was involved with a band and found out the guitarist was taking the lion's share of the fee I was totally cheesed off, needless to say I had a chat with the drummer and it seems we were being paid X whilst he was paying himself Y, when I challenged him as to why we were told he did all the gig booking and so thought it only reasonable that he took more.

Sum of the parts and all that came to mind, but as said neither me nor the drummer hung around long after that.

Hope you find something quickly 🙂

Who knows? I wasn't supposed to know but the venue owner paid me before we started. So now I know the total and how much we all got.

I'll be looking for another job.

Hmm, I've been on the receiving end of similar - needless to say I didn't hang around long after finding out.  Is the guitarist the main gig finder/booker?
