Singer has some good pipes to be banging that out at the end of the night.

He never ceases to amaze me - sometimes we'll do 4 or 5 AC/DC covers in the second set - you'd think he'd have a sore throat at the end of the night but hasn't done so yet!?

We did Thunderstruck before that one.... 🙂

The link to FB doesn't work. No content unless its on someone's private feed.

    Dave

Hmm, I’m not really that familiar with sharing Facebook videos to be honest, it was a live video from my phone on my mic stand - I’ll have another look to see whether I can suss out what it doesn’t work😊

Give it another go, I’ve changed to public - hopefully that should do it😊

  3. It was a first time outing for Sarum’s Lot at Laarsens Bar in Basingstoke last night, a reasonable crowd turned up and seemed to enjoy what we churned out, we’ve been invited back and a couple approached us to do a private party for them. Glad to have the spring upon us but am feeling a tad jaded having got to bed at 3am and then being on Grampy duties this morning….😴😴

  4. We played at Boscombe Rec Club, it is where we rehearse for free and part of the agreement is we give them two gigs a year for free, it's a shame to see a recreation club so poorly supported by their members, I'm sure it if we to close there'd be uproar.

Not overly busy but the few that were there seemed to appreciate us, a fairly early finish was welcome.

Wet and windy wilds of  Wiltshire yesterday. The Woodbridge Inn is a real homely boozer with extremely friendly staff and about a million lovely dogs in residence. They even have their own pooch sofa in one of the bars.

The room we played in sounded really good. I used my GT Core as preamp into the effects return of my Veyron. It really does produce a great sound. Tidy and tight and nicely in the mix.

Unfortunately I am still awaiting any news of payment from the BL and there was virtually no one there to watch us.

We're out again this evening. Hopefully better things await.

As much as I love playing my bass, I can do it for free to nobody quite happily in my room at home.

Sadly they just don’t seem to promote any bands that play there, not what I’d consider properly at least,  I’ve tended to promote when we’ve played there as I live locally and posted on local notice boards etc - it’s a shame really because we’ve had some good nights in there, despite the location being a bit middle of nowhere.

  6. Just in from our gig at The Angel Inn, Andover - we had a great night, a few of our loyal following turned up, so that always helps, there was a mix of people, some wanted to sit at tables and watch the band/chat with their pals, others wanted to dance and sing, we even had a young couple that we're heading to the Indian for dinner and were drawn in to the pub and stayed all night (they had packets of crisps and pickled eggs for their dinner, washed down with gin and beer😳😷)

Looking forward to a double header next weekend😀

Away from the bass, my duo Deadlight Dance played a low key spot at The Barge in Honeystreet, Wilts. Nick (other half of DLD) used to live next door and this was a regular haunt for us three decades ago. Very alternative-y vibe. Got told off by one member of the audience for looking far too young for my age (the photo doesn't support this view, mind!). "Do you take illegal drugs?" she enquired. "No, I'm quite healthy living" I replied to which she started pointing at me, shouting "see!" Quite surreal. Another bloke asked to sit by me "because you look really cool", only to then undermine my brief moment of being flattered by detailing a long history of mental health concerns.

We did a mix of Cure and Sisters of Mercy songs (on the mandolin and mandocello) before doing our new single "Missives from the Sisters" (shameless plug alert, streaming on all good - & bad - platforms via Ray Records from Friday).

Yes I’ve played there. Everyone is on first name terms, and it gets pretty wild once the drink takes hold!

That's one of my locals, played there many times and can be a  great gig😎🙂

This is my current rig I'm using at practice. It's obnoxiously heavy but gotta say it's an absolute beast. I've been super happy with my GK Fusion S class d head until I tried this Marshal VBA400.

Combining that with the Schecter J4, Model FeT preamp and Longsword drive makes for the perfect gritty tone.

Kind of wish I'd played this setup before grabbing the Jad Freer Capo but tbh that thing is gonna make this even better!

VBA400 FTW - gigged mine again last Saturday, just immense!😎🤘

  9. I’d say it’s not as dark as an SVT (although that could be to do with the cab) - I’ve heard folks say the EQ on these can seem a bit limited, I did have the deep switch and bright switch engaged, left the table and bass controls at noon and boosted the mids a touch - to my ears it sounded quite articulate for a valve amp, despite plenty of overdriven tones, I was digging in hard during a couple of Nirvana covers and you could clearly hear the difference.

     Really pleased with it👍🏻😊

How do you find the VBA400? Did it get it's run out ?

Absolutely awesome, really pleased with it, I used the GS412 with it as the Bassman cab pretty much fills the load area of my car.  I’d been mulling over getting a valve amp for a while and almost pulled the trigger on a SVT - this thing goes into overdrive and just sounds like I was hoping and wanting it to, yes it’s super heavy at 76lbs, almost double the weight of my DB750 (and that’s pretty heavy at 46lbs) but totally worth the effort😊👍🏻🤘

Nice one. Looks like a heavy load in tho. 😂

    Dave

I still have my Barefaced cab for the really tricky load-ins, and to be honest it sounds equally as good as the 412.

That is the only draw back, but it sounds so good so totally worth it, anyway, that’s what band mates are for😁

  12. We played at The Angel Inn in Andover last night, had a few of our regulars make the journey from Salisbury to see our first outing of the year, smallish crowd to start with and then the place soon filled up, lots of singing and even some dancing on the bar, so a great night was had by all.

First gig with the Marshall VBA400 - I’d been hankering for a valve amp since joining this band as we do classic rock covers, and wanted that sound - wow!  It certainly does that in spades, even had my jeans flapping a few times, reminded me of my younger days! Very happy😊👍🏻

  13. I feel bad now after hearing the difficulties you guys are facing regarding getting gigs, chasing gigs can be soul destroying at the best of times ☹️ - my first outing last night, the first of 45 gigs booked for this year so far (still have 4 dates to fill for later this year), we played a working men’s club in Chandlers Ford and the place was busy with lots of singing and dancing all night - not quite sure what bass face I was pulling here? Looks more like gurning to me🤣

There may be people reading who are led to believe the pub really is called The Fighting Pink Torpedoes 😂

    🤣🤣

There used to be a band locally to me called The Pink Torpedos, and I once played in a band called The Willy Stroker Band.

  15.  For reasons of full transparency I have noticed a minor problem with the power in socket - it seems a bit loose but once the power lead has been fitted it operates without fault, this has the gate/boost mod and has been a regular on my board for around 4 years or so - a couple of minor blemishes to the paint but nothing too serious as can be seen in the photo - if you want more pics please ask. Has Velcro on bottom.

Prefer collection but will post at cost.
