My work is done...........good choice A.
cheers buddy -
Mart you were right,i was suffering from a bout of sheer stupidity.
i've just strung it back up with rounds & been funking out,man this is the first time i've heard it with the Nordy & round wounds, its AWESOME,it's really come alive again,i love it.
thank f*** i never sold it.
thanks for the interest folks but i'm going to keep this (for now any rate)
cheers. -
If this had a SLO neck on it I'd be on it.
thank you very kindly -
i suppose it depends on the bass in question,i was playing mainly a US 62 reissue jazz with a neck made out of blu-tak which was horrible for neck stability.
-
that's gorgeous A. You mad???
yes i think i may be.
i'm just going to chuck on the original round wounds it came with & annoy the neighbours for a while, then probably slap my self a few times & see what happens. -
my old blues band used to tune to E flat (the guitarist was convinced he was SRV).
i was playing Fender Jazz's at the time & they only required minor adjustments, slacken the truss rod a tad (1/4 turn maybee not much) & a slightly highter action to make up for the lower string tension.
a bit of a pain in the arse but no major problem. -
-
i owned a lovely SB900 when i was a wee pup, then traded it for some tat or other, what a tit,i wish i still had it.
-
I've also never noticed any dead spots on any of the 'rays i've owned or played.
-
not too shure about selling this bass, but i'm swinging that way,as i recently bought an Ibanez BTB770 to use as a backup bass but as it turns out i prefer the Iby & it seems to suit my band better too.
mint condition,as all of my gear is ,mind i only bought it in November so it should be,4 string - rosewood fretboard - finished in a lovely honeyburst with a white scratchplate complete with it's origional hard shell case.
i've had a Nordstrand 4.2 pickup fitted (no longer have the crappy original one i'm afraid) which sounds wonderful,no whispering G-string here
setup is spot on with the lowest action of any bass i've ever owned, strung with EB group 2 flats + i have a brand new un opened set of EB slinky round wounds you can have too.
not too shure about shipping this as i don't have a box big enough for it so i would prefer a meet up if possible.
as for a price i would like £850.00 for this beauty.
as for trades the only thing i would be interested in would be something very similar to my BTB i.e. thorugh neck-active-35" scale, unless i decide to keep it after all.
cheers.
DID I REALLY SPOUT ALL THAT BOLLOCKS ABOVE,WHAT A KNOB HEAD -
Having a bit of a logistical nightmare with this one becasue I haven't got a suitable HSC and don't have quick access to one. I could have traded or sold it 5 times over if I had..........c'est la vie.
Tell you what - I'll deliver/meet up within 20 miles of Rotherham/Sheffield or Scunthorpe keep the price at £625 if that is any use to anyone.
Artisan - if yours is a rosewood board i'd happily get it defretted ;-)
aye rosewood it be me hearty & it's got a nice Nordstrand pickup too.
i like my 'ray but i bought an Ibanez BTB at the weekend & i prefer that.
can't play fretless to save my life but i've always fancied an Overwater. -
ooooh that's very nice,i'd love that i would.
it's a damn good job you want a fretless 'ray or i'd be tempted to offer you a deal with my 'ray. -
yep that's fugly for shure
-
you've got exactly what i had with mine by the sounds of it,i managed to get the volume even accross all 4 strings but the G just lacked any punch.
i tried changing strings & messed with the pickup heights for ages all to no avail, but once the Nordstrand was fitted the problem just dissapeared & my bass is now perfect + it sounds a lot better too. (this shouldn't be a problem on a £1000 + bass of course) -
if you can try a Roland D-bass 210,i did & it blew me away - infact it's still doing it.
it is easliy the best sounding bass amp i have ever used,in fact i love it so much i sold my Ampeg SVT rig & just use this now.
it's got more than enough power for you application too,it is a very loud amp but oh so nice sounding. -
just sold Cham my stingray pickup, super fast & totally hassle free payment, very good comm's & a top guy to deal with too,
highly recommended. -
I await the reviews. I hope the pre-amp is improved. I might be in the minority on the Humbucker...they are best left to Rays IMO.
amen brother -
Ooh watch this beauty fly out the door.
On the other hand as the bass is relatively new to you do you think it wise to get rid of the pup just yet?
Originals are so hard to come by and selling w/out the original pup will affect your resale price. Just saying like.
me sell a bass-never happen
i know what you mean, but i intend to get burried with this bass so it shouldn't be an issue for me (i hope)
cheers -
I bought mine from PMT Leeds last november for £1000.00,mind they had it up for £1299.00 but i had a very hard haggling session
-
this is off my 'ray which i bought in November last year so condition is excellent.
i've just fitted a Nordstrand pickup to my bass so this is now surplus to requirments.
price is £65.00 inc' delivery to a U.K. address. -
Good thread.
While im at the budget end and only have a Sub i have noticed the G is weak, more so up to the 5th fret. Im going to try the pole piece adjustment in a min but i do like the idea of putting a Nordy in it.
Is it a like for like fit/wiring? Im ok with basic soldering so quite fancy getting my hands dirty so to speak.
I had this problem with my last two basses though (both Laklands) and found that the right strings, and the right EQ cured this. Also a change of pup on the DD but that was more for tone than to fix anything.
I dont think its the same thing as the MM issues though.
EDIT: I couldnt get the pole pieces to move so that didnt work. I didnt want to push too hard. The springs gave me quite a surprise though. Especially when all 4 went flying across the room lol.
i had my tech fit the Nordy for me but he said it was a straight forward job--only charged me £15.00.
you can wire it in parallel (std EBMM seting) or in series, which i went for.
it still sounds very much a stingray but with a lot more balls & punch. -
if it was me i'd have this purple beastie

obviously you'll be needing an extra string but i'm shure they'd be happy to oblige.
this bass is just gorgeous.
i'd sell my knackers to have one of these. -
if you can find a local stockist its worth checking out the Roland D-bass range.
i sold my Ampeg SVT rig to buy one of these & love it. -
I always regretted selling that bass & would buy it back in a flash if i could get the dosh sorted.
this is the best jazz bass i have ever played & i've had quite a few.
