2. thought I'd post this as I'm playing this choon to death at the moment (well it sounds like I'm killing it :rolleyes: )

...but I'm not sure the slap part in the middle is correct....my technique seems a little tame by Mr J's stds's..maybe I should get a baseball bat on them strings :)

3. My old RBX-374 had a set of Ernie Ball Group 111 flatwounds on and I loved them...I'm gagging for a set for my BB414 now but I can't remember what gauge I had...and the box got sold with the RBX!...I know I could slap them!

newbie question but.....is the usual default gauge 40-100?

how does the gauge effect the tone....I'm guessing the thicker the string gauge, the warmer the tone?

4. Holy Thread Resurection Batman!

....heard this on Radio Chelmsford...yes I didn't know either, but they sure do play some great disco and funk.....

I have a habit of hearing something I like in the pub...(the volume is always very low, so it's got to be something that makes my ears prick-up) then sending myself a txt to remind me to have a go at the tune the next day....

heard this last night, pumped it into google and this thread popped up :)

5. Wow, that's taken me back!

In the 70's Tony Zemaitis was a family friend....I was trying to learn piano at the time and my brother was learning lead guitar.

....this is one of the few things I remember my brother asking him..."why has this guitar got 'funny frets'".....he went into something about optimum string lengths for different notes...he was very enthusiastic about this guitar...they were all 'ones offs' at this time and this was a little bit extra special....it had some amazing engraving too, done at my fathers gunshop.

....he also said, the builder (him) would notice the difference, but new owner, most likely 'a famous name', would never notice the difference as he almost deaf anyway....but the price reflected the additional work!

I remember more about the lovely cars he used to own :)..and the way he drove them!

6. Always liked the look of these SB's...how do the reissues compare?

7.
That man wears hats and sunglasses indoors a bit too often for my liking.

If your boiler is broken and you have a migraine, then you can wear a hat and sunglasses indoors and not be presumed a bit of a Bono.
I'd wear a hat, sunglasses and a sequinned tutu if I'd could have an ounce of this guys talent :)

8. feels like my VMJ neck, fast and easy to play,

I love my 414 passive, the 614 active is good but I like the simplicity of the 414...both are slap monsters, 414 a little more deep, rich in sound...ohh and the orange finish is to die for but only comes on the 414 passive.

9. Hi guys,

bought this last year when I had my little Orange Crush and it was simply too much for it...as a rookie it took me some time to understand this though...I just wanted a Funkin In Jamaica sound...but didn't realise it took bit more than 20 watt amp to get it!

....since bought a Hartke amp but I still never use this Octaver, it just sits around boxed looking sad....so maybe someone else should own it.
Very clean condition, doesn't look very used at all to be fair, comes with box and all instructions, ohh and new battery too boot.

So a genuine reason for sale: I don't want it anymore!

Chelmsford Essex area, can post to UK mainland should you wish or pick up in person for a few quid less.

12. It's funny you know, I love my Yamaha's....

......the looks, the build and sound of them rice grinder's is great...but.....but......but....well that VMJ I bought is still with me after selling 2 Yammies, it's the oldest bass I have, which isn't saying much, can't be more than a few months old.....the looks are sublime to me, the build ain't brilliant, more good in a more business like way I would say, the action is a little high, but could be tweaked if I could be asked, yet it's so easy, satisfying & fun to play, there is just something about the tone, ease of control on my knobs (don't say ooer!) & yet I think, with my BB414 I really don't need this bass anymore....

...then I pick it up after playing my wonderful Orange BB and I think I can't sell her afterall...there really is something a little bit special about this mass produced, cheapo Asian heavyweight...it all seems to gel together so terribly well, someone did their homework.

...anyway I was going thru the Squier site and thought those classic vibes look real pretty....what's the difference v VMJ to the Classic Vibe Jazz series...can anyone comment?

cheers guys

13. The vender kindly mailed me the serial number of E1047713....this number has too many numbers to be a Fender if this list below is correct or the bargain of the century as US made /79/80/81 jazz bass and they made an aweful lot of them so neaded an extra number...I'm no Fender expert...or it's a Korean Squier from 1990 ish..I give up...but the headline describes it as 60's jazz bass.....!!!

Serial Number on Peghead Decal.
U.S. made Fenders, starting in mid-1976 has the serial number on the peghead. Note the following number could be off as much as two years. Generally speaking, a "S" prefix equals the 1970's, "E" prefix equals the 1980's, and "N" prefix equals the 1990's. Note "E" and "N" prefix models are sometimes also Japanese-made (see below).
7600000 ("76" in bold) = 1976-1977

Korean Squiers
CN/VN: C = Cor-Tek (Cort), V = Saehan(Sunghan), S was already taken by Samick so Saehan(Sunghan) used V instead (Saehan(Sunghan) made the Vester guitars), N = Nineties (1990s), the first number following the serial number prefix is the year.

For example

"CN5" = made by Cor-Tek (Cort) in 1995.
"VN5" = made by Saehan(Sunghan) in 1995.
KC/KV: KC (Korean Cor-Tek (Cort)) and KV (Korean Saehan(Sunghan)), the serial number prefix is followed by a 2 number year.

For example

"KC97" = made by Cor-Tek (Cort) in 1997.
"KV97" = made by Saehan(Sunghan) in 1997.
KC and KV serial number prefixes are usually used on Crafted in Korea Squiers.

S/E: The S and E serial number prefix Korean Squiers are from the late 1980s/early 1990s. S = Samick, E = Young Chang, E letter serial numbers were used on Young Chang's Fenix brand guitars [3]. The first number following the serial number prefix is the year.

For example

"S9" = made by Samick in 1989.
"E0" = made by Sung-Eum in 1990.
"E1" = made by Sung-Eum in 1991.
There were also Korean Squier serials with no serial number prefix and 6 or 7 numbers and the first number is the year.
