  1. Not only did I not know that existed, I didn't know Dan Hartman was a working bassist (I'm a card carrying Disco collector) nor did I know he played with Edgar Winter. I've learnt a lot tonight... admittedly some of it I wish I hadn't but we can't always have it both ways.
  2. For me I guess it depends how we define regret. I owned an '83 USA PBass with maple neck and blonde body that I would take back in an absolute heartbeat but I know the circumstances under which I sold it (and quite literally every other bit of kit I owned) meant that it was the right thing to do at the time. I actually know the person I sold it to so I could potentially buy it back some day but deep down I know what I actually want is any slightly aged blonde PBass that plays well so it won't be the end of the world if it doesn't make its way back to me! That said, I am not someone who has the hankering nor the income to buy things that aren't about to be used in the ensuing couple of days on stage/in the studio so I can't imagine ever owning something I didn't need. I suppose if you enjoy owning options or the thrill of building a collection then perhaps hold on to that quite unique bass you've got there?
  3. Very kind of you, cheers! I actually live in Hereford and that clip was captured live in The Bell Inn, Bath so not miles away but a bit of a stretch. I have the feeling that the bandleader's priorities lie elsewhere by now so I fear 5000AD may be one of those bands on a permanent shelf despite having never officially disbanded.
  4. MODS PLEASE DELETE. 5000AD - Red Hot Momma/Vital Juices Video has come out in a bizarre lossy format and only one of the clips is in an compatible format. I have no idea why. 06dc77a9-d2d5-4285-85a1-e31171b48754.mov f7dba0a5-1439-450b-9e98-da11f810d75a.MP4
  5. Saturday June 18th was a stage built directly in the shadow of a Concorde in Bristol for an exclusive event introducing the brand new Aston Martin vehicles to their new owners. Again, both basses were recruited for low end duty with my Bb-Db PBass on 80% of the material and the more modern/more 80s material was covered by the Moog.
  6. Last night (June 5th 2022) I was playing soul, funk & synthpop classics on a festival stage with an 11 piece band at the Royal Victoria Gardens in London. Again, my setup was the Moog Sub 37 for the three tunes that feature keyboard bass in the original recordings while the bulk of the 75minute set was on the PBass. The stage crew were phenomenal and it was a real privilege to share the stage with some of my favourite musicians from the Southwest.
  7. Hey Folks, This bass was lent to me when I toured with melodramatic Mancunian singer/songwriter Kev Fox across Poland back in 2013 and it had some interesting features... namely an open seam on the back and the scroll had been completely snapped off! The story is that the bass was on its side in the studio years prior and a musician lifted it up quite vigorously, snapping the scroll off as it struck the underside of an upright piano. It definitely made the bass interesting to look at and given the beast spent most of its time in the back of a van in a polystyrene-lined universal case I suppose it was a good thing that it wasn't a prized instrument of a few hundred years old. What's the wackiest tour bass you've been handed for a string of shows?
  8. The bass weight I was getting from this beast really hit the spot at last night's two set gig in Polsham, England 21/05/22. Moog Sub37 on the stand for half of the material and my equally fat PBass strung Bb, Eb, Ab, Db for the more rock, soul and Disco material. Both instruments ran through a two channel head and the whole band was on IEMs which made the whole thing a real doddle. Particularly great hookup with the drummer and kind soul Arthur Hollindrake behind the kit.
  9. Hi Everyone, With Summer Coming To A Close I Am Now Available Most Weekends in 2022 And Am Willing To Consider All Gigs, Recordings or Remote Recordings Near & Far! I hope you've kept safe these past few years My last post in the bassists available sub was mentioned May 2013 in its title so I thought it was time for a fresh one. Now based in Hereford, I've been in professional music since 2005 and by now I have extensive experience playing live and in the studio in original bands most often adjacent to either Jazz or Folk in Wales, London, Bristol and Cardiff. In addition to original music, a great deal of my professional contracts have centred around my ability to sight read or memorise material ahead of time leading me to have been a part of a huge amount of weddings, long term contracts on cruise ships and also in the pit bands for West Side Story, Aladdin (panto), The Wiz, Billy Elliot, LIFT and FAME. My last 'bassist available' had a comment from Geoff Chalmers (of Discover Double Bass) who kindly vouched for my playing ability and I'd be happy to give you further, specific references if anyone should want to get in touch. With my diary reeling from the impact Covid had on the industry, I'm pretty much wide open for paid playing opportunities be them one night or long term contracts including a December month that is entirely empty should anyone know of a Pantomime slot that needs filling. I also have a tried and tested remote recording studio if you need any bass guitar/upright or Moog stems sending over in 24bit. I've got great gear, I love the coffee chats either side of a performance, I'm not a drinker and I'm more than happy to drive a few hundred miles for the right gigs! Cheers for reading my lengthy post and I hope you have a busy Summer ahead of you. All the Best, Ben (Please see top of this message for dates I'm free)
  10. Bass is currently waiting to be viewed (today) by Arnoldas but I'll keep the listing alive and kicking unless it leaves my hands for good! Still happy to take PMs in the meantime if anyone wants to be 2nd in the queue though of course
  11. Hi everyone, Seeing as there doesn't seem to be any Cardiff names looking to come and try out this bass I am now willing to send the bass to UK mainland provided it is fully insured at the buyers expense and I can have a bit of time to just find a box big enough to post it securely! Cheers for all the interest!
  12. Hello Everyone, The music game is obviously a long and varied road and I thought it would be nice to hear stories from the forum's members about the last time you had a moment where you thought 'this is why I stuck with it', 'I'm so lucky to get to do this so regularly' or even your 'all of those hours put in are finally paying off!' Revisiting those uplifting moments can only be a healthy thing and I'm sure I won't be the only one who'll enjoy reading about such heart warming events. Have a decent weekend y'all!
  13. Hi everyone, sorry for the delay. After hunting down a tape measure after realising my other half has pilfered it for picture hanging I can confirm that it is a 35" scale!
  14. BUMP now that I have added closeup images of the (minuscule) damages to the instrument.
  15. FINAL UPDATE: Bass has sold to a faithful BC'er in London. Thanks everyone for the interest. UPDATE: I'm now willing to send to mainland UK if fully insured and if you would allow me time to find a box big enough to house the bass & its hardcase. Some people already kindly asked in PMs if this was a possibility so I'll be giving those people first refusal out of courtesy. ALSO UPDATE: I plugged the bass in a day or two ago and the jack output is a tiny bit loose but makes a fantastic, full output connection 99% of the time. I'll have a look at it and see what the deal is. ------ Hi everyone, selling my Overwater Perception Pro Deluxe Custom 5 String with its Overwater/Hiscox Case. Manufactured 2007 Purchased by me in December 2010 5 String 24 Frets 35" Scale 9V Active 4.6kg (bass on its own) Volume, Pickup Pan, Bass, Mid, Treble, Push/Pull High End Boost Bolt-On Neck Upgraded Overwater PreAmp (Fit By Overwater) Overwater/Hiscox Hardcase Selling Due To No Longer Playing Collection-Only, Cardiff, UK Strung Bb - Gb String spacing between B-E string 14mm, spacing D-G strings is 16mm (measured at the bridge by myself with a ruler and no idea what I'm doing!) As far as I can remember, the ‘custom’ in its name denotes it having a non-standard bridge to what was offered at the time of manufacture. In October 2015 I safely sent the bass to Chris May at Overwater for some love & attention and it was at that point in its life that its active preamp was upgraded to the newest model available at the time and a ramp between the pickups was also fit with the most matching wood Overwater were capable of providing. The bass also had a full service while it was with them. I do not have Facebook myself but if you were to head to overwater’s FB page you will see an image they uploaded while it was with them in the shop that verifies the date these upgrades were made by them. I have no altered the bass in any way myself and it is in remarkable condition. That said, it has been used to me in hundreds of professional environments therefore has the faintest of hairlines present on some of the body/neck but nothing that affects playability. I have always been careful to not let the bass come in contact with belt buckles/belt sanders and if it wasn’t in a hardcase it was always propped up safely on a stand. The gold hardware has began to reflect a slightly more silver/chrome finish due to my hands running over it so regularly. I have professionally used the bass with much love and care since I bought it and am only parting with it as I no longer have any yearning to be involved in the business. It seems an absolute crime to have this stunning instrument sat in its case doing absolutely nothing. The bass is for sale for £1050 including the case and I will have to insist on it being pick-up only from Cardiff. The only thing I can imagine being sadder than parting with the bass is for it to be damaged in transit. I would also really like for someone to come and have a play of the bass rather than trying to pay me from overseas and have me deal with a third party here acting as a courier. This is only because it would allow too much room for miscommunication and I am not confident in my ability to safely package something so delicate for international shipping. Thanks for reading and I will do my best to reply to any queries asap!
