  1. 2024 ebony/black special edition bass that I imported from Spain, was a real bargain before I had to pay the duties! I had it reworked by Indra Guitars, a luthier who specialises in ageing, etching, engraving, and generally crafting offbeat wonders. The short scale (30") bass is fairly stock apart from flattened paint, a bit of hidden routing to lose 500g and obviously the lollipop machine heads are irresistible. The MFD pickup is absurdly epic, with the even hotter option on the OMG switch (if you want to blow the bloody door off). The crows are taken from real pictures I took in India. (I'm a photographer). Courier at cost, possible trade

  2. Up for grabs is this luthier built bitsa. The neck is an 80s ESP, flat like a Stingray, with polished and levelled frets and original neck plate, as well as original Schaller machine heads. Pickups are a pair of Nordstrand soapbars, the bridge one at 70s jazz position. Pickguard and control plate are custom made in aluminum, with Gotoh relic knobs. Knobs are Vol, Blend and Tone, the strings are La Bella Deep Talkin extra light. The bass sounds epic, and is really versatile. Action is low and the setup is fresh!

  3. Surf green (nitro) Fender American Original build. Body and neck are NOS, sourced from Reverb, pickguard also NOS, from Armstrong Music, and the build was by a brilliant local luthier. Mike Dirnt 59 pickups installed, CTS pots, Fender 0.1 wax cap. Gotoh relic knobs and RES-O-LITE machine heads. Bridge is Fender Pure Vintage. Only the best at every step! It's cost me around £1400, and probably would have been more sensible to just buy a used one, but this is genuinely a bit special. The bass has a really nice low action and is beautifully set up, wearing GHS Precision flats. It comes in at a fantastic 8lbs. Can courier at cost. May trade for a Sandberg!

  4. It's all very subjective. I wanted to get the Electra closer to German, so I did preamp, pickups and tuners. Aguilar are small pole and Alnico so psychologically more vintage. And I had the bits here already. Tone is good across the Sandbergs without any tweaking though! VM4 and Central to go, then I have the full set!
  5. Lionel is active with passive switching, I traded a Stingray for it, it's not the Bass Direct one!
  6. My Sandberg Family. SL TT, Electra VS4 (with Aguilar 60s and German tuners), TM4 Electra (Thomann Special) and the magnificent Lionel. I've become a fan boy!
  7. What on earth for? You just adjust correctly, then tighten the locking screw!
  8. Ha, blur is just the photography, it's a brand new build! The thumbrest is held on with double sided tape. No residue.
  9. It's what he would have wanted! 😂
  10. Try as I might, I just can't get on with the slab body. This is a new Allparts trans butterscotch telecaster bass body, with the neck sourced from a New York luthier who specialises in aged finishing. He applied the logo too and supplied and fitted Gotoh tuners. The pickup is a Bloodstone Handwound Noiseless. All assembly and setup executed by my luthier, who made the natty (removable) thumb rest too! Although I bought the ferrules, the holes are currently capped as I didn't really require string though. It's lightweight and dead cool, currently strung with GHS Precision flats. Can ship. Trades maybe!
  11. Never thought I'd let this one go but I've gone Lionel. I bought this from The Bass Gallery last year for 1200 and had my luthier fit John East. Atelier is a boutique Japanese bass maker that doesn't officially export to the UK. A truly exquisite instrument. 30" scale jazz bass, more than just a Mustang on steroids, it has titanium truss rod and a string through body. Made in Japan 2019. I've never seen another with this finish, so probably a custom order. It's a 30th anniversary edition with honeyburst, book matched, spalted face and rosewood fretboard. The preamp has been upgraded to John East (the best there is) with pull passive/tone control or active 2 band EQ. Strung with recent flatwounds, set up with low action. A real collectible gem. Potentially open to trades! Can courier.
  12. Lovely Japanese Squier. Not perfect but a really good example. Has House of Tone Handwound Alnico pickups, no hum. Recent setup, plays a treat. Now £575. Can courier.
