1. Hi! I want to get rid of this fretless 4 string I bought for a show at Edinburgh last year and haven't played since. It's a nice and playable bass but don't need it anymore. - Active EQ - Unlined fretboard - Natural finish It's in very good condition, barely played and looks really nice. To collect from Birmingham - make an offer.
2. Bumpety. I'm open to offers on this. (In a good mood because I got a steal on an old Eden 410!)
3. Hi guys, I have a GS112 with tweeter for sale. Just bought an Eden 410 so no longer need both my 12s. Good condition in perfect gigging order. - 300W - Great compact cab - 1/4" and speakon connections - Adjustable tweeter To collect from Birmingham. Looking for £250. Thanks!
4. Hmmm thanks for all the advice. I'll check the polarity tomorrow and see if that's the issue. Running decent quality speakon cables. I'll be truly upset if it's the Eden not cutting the mustard as I waited years to own one!
5. Hi guys, I'm currently running an Eden WTX500 through a pair of Aguilar GS112s and I'm getting a bit fed up because the rig is so quiet. I used to have a big old Ashdown MAG210 combo and it was so much louder than this whole rig. It's getting to the point where the head is limiting at about 1 o'clock on the output. I can't hear myself at even a medium small venue. (With an 8 piece soul band, all through PA). I know volume is down to the air you can shift. Do you think swapping for a pair of 210s (thinking maybe TC electronic RS210s) would make a significant difference. I am just not happy that I'm getting 500W of sound at the moment. Any advice would be gratefully received! Thanks guys!
6.
retro analogue synth plug in??? native instruments pro53
+1 I have found the pure joy of taking off my bass and standing at a completely novelty tiny keyboard!!
7. Just a point - yes I am aware that Nate Watts doesn't use a £50 midi keyboard and laptop! But you get the gist!
Hi guys, I've been really wanting to sort myself out with some synth tones for Chaka Khan and Stevie Wonder tunes in my function band. Having decided that my poor wallet can't justify a pedal I've decided to go the Nathan Watts route and set myself up with a little midi keyboard and Macbook instead, to have running on an aux into my rig (keys was my first instrument so shouldn't be a problem). Can anyone recommend a good retro analogue synth plugin to replicate those Greg Phillinganes and Stevie synth tones? Thanks.
9. I go with a set of XLs which is Medium bottom/regular lite top, so that the B is a pretty heavy gauge relative to the other strings. That and a good setup keep my sub £500 Active Jazz V sounding pretty sweet in those sometimes murky depths!
10. Yeah was classic I was watching it with my nephew and spotted Cleo Lane, John Dankworth and Mark Nightingale (who I had played with the week before)...its great!
11.
You get what you pay for. If your thinking around the price of the Digitech, then honestly that I the best at that price point. Spend a little more and you can get a Boss SYB or EHX MicroSynth. The EHX has the better sound, but can only be set up for one sound at a time... The Boss will let you have a few presets, but non of which are amazing. For a Single pedal solution the Markbass is by far the best but you need to spend time with it hooked up to a computer to get the best out of the sounds (although the presets are still better than the other pedals listed). There's loads of info here - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=72012 plus if you use the search function in the effects forum for 'synth' you'll find loads more. Obviously the most versatile way to do it is analog with multiple pedals... But it gets expensive... Like this - DanOwens blog is worth reading as well - http://mrdfowens.tumblr.com/ Shep
An impressive set up...to be honest I'm a complete pedal newbie so am lookin for something in one...watching the video demo of the EHX microsynth that seems to have some really nice analogue sounds so must see if I can try one out. Thanks for the advice chaps.
12. Hi people, I'm looking for a pedal to get a variety of decent synth sounds, most specifically late 70s and 80s synth bass tones. The prime example for what I'm looking for would be AJ's (I assume it's him) sound on "We can work it out" on Chaka Khan's "Whatcha gonna do for me?" album. (Although this could well be Greg Phillinganes on Keys?) I've heard the tracking on the Digitech Synth Bass Wah has a little to be desired but I don't have a colossal budget for this. Any suggestions much appreciated! Cheers, Nick
13. I find this really surprising, as Yamaha have such a reputation for maintaining high quality consistently across the line. I have had a few cheaper Yamahas and they have been fantastic instruments. A real shame to hear this!
14. This is probably one of my all time favourite tunes to play, its just so smooth. Good work on the transcription, got a couple of bits that I'd missed!
15. Some great advice given in this thread! My tiny gem of wisdom would be that I've played a precision 4, jazz 4, yamaha 4 then jazz 5 and have always found it tricky to switch between basses regularly. I have been settled on my J5 for about 2 years. I turned up to a jam session the other day and played a friend's G&L 4 string, and just found it really uncomfortable to play, my main issue is finding something to do with my thumb! It sits on the B on my 5, and the pups on the G&L seem in a funny place. The point I'm making is that it might take a while to become truly accustomed to a bass. However, when I pick up a P4, which is what I learnt on, it all comes back to me. In my opinion a very good starter bass for any style. I played jazz on a precision for a fair time. In my mind the ultimate bass guitar!
16. Hi guys, This may sound ridiculous but I'm having serious issues transcribing Senorita by Justin Timberlake. I don't know if I have a problem with my ears or something. I have sat for literally hours trying to figure out what note the main groove drops down to on the last note of the riff. The problem for me is that I'm sure the keyboard riff has a different bottom line to the bass. The first two notes are definitely Db Db Eb Eb Eb But then does it go Bb Bb Ab or even Ab Ab Gb, although neither of these sit right. I am by no means a beginner, but this has me serious flummoxed. HELP! A transcription of just the riff would be ace!
17. I have just got back from seeing EWF at the NIA in Birmingham and I can categorically say Verdine somehow nails all those lines while jumping and dancing round in his trademark style. Probably one of the most impressive live bands I've seen, and they matched outstanding musicianship with an extremely entertaining performance. Outstanding groove and some impressive solos from the supporting lineup. Would even go as far as saying that they equal the quality of Stevie Wonder's most recent band (controversial)! (Should mention that only Verdine, Philip Bailey and another vocalist remain as original members) Very very worthwhile seeing if you can catch the end of their tour! Cheers guys
18. Hi guys, Having just bought my first 5 string I am having to get rid of my everyday 4 to get rid of it. Its a Yamaha TRB1004, about 2 years old, (they only made a few of these as they were discontinued pretty sharpish) in excellent condition. This is a great middle ground between the entry level RBX series and high end signatures series basses (Nathan East, John Patitucci etc.), and features on board active 3 band eq and pickup pan pot. This bass got a good write up in Bass Player on its release if you can find the article (which I can't seem to right now). I've played it on every gig for a year in jazz, fusion, funk, soul and covers. The clip on cover for the battery case on the back is broken. This happened when I bought the instrument and I bought the spare to replace it, but i manage to catch and snap the replacement. I can find the part number and order line number if necessary, the replacement cover is £16 delivered so I resented paying that again! (I find the current electrical tape arrangement is fine!) Apart from that the bass is mint and strung with XL half-round strings, and is sold with a heavy duty flight case. I'm in Birmingham, and can arrange a courier. Looking for £400 delivered o.n.o. (Payed £500 new last year) Happy shopping!

20. Hi guys, Pics as requested
21. Hi guys, I am finally getting rid of my trusty Ashdown combo to fund a new speaker for my Eden/Aguilar rig. Its a standard UK made MAG210 combo which puts out 300W at 8ohms and 500W at 4ohms. Features include 5 band eq, eq bypass, 'deep' and 'bright' boosts. See Ashdown website for full blurb. This has served me well and been well gigged for about 5 years and is a little shabby aesthetically. The sub-harmonic button is not working, and the fan is also a little noisy, therefore I'm looking for a round £100 for it. Its a VERY loud amp for its size is ideal for most venues and styles. PM me if you're interested, I live in Birmingham, would consider collection or personal delivery locally for petrol costs Thanks, Nick
