  1. Thanks. It's an Ibanez RB 830, so probably the same as the Yamaha Who sells the Alpha / Bourns ?
  2. So I did a bit of rewiring, soldering a bunch of new earth wires to the pots. Also soldered the bridge pickup again. Got sound out of the bass. I've ordered a new cap for the tone control as that also doesn't seem to be 100%. If I do want to replace the pots is the standard : CTS 250K ?
  3. Thanks. I'll try that out. The pots seem to be Ok when the pickup decides to work.
  4. Just bought a PJ bass and am having trouble with the bridge pickup. I tworks intermittently. I have resoldered a lot of the connections in the electrics... some of them were just a thread. Worst soldering I've ever seen. The pickup only works if i hold acrewdriver on one of the magnetic poles. Then it works for a bit. Does this mean that pickup is faulty or is it a connection problem in the wiring circuit. ? That's why I checked all the soldered connections on the pots. Any help appreciated.
  5. Yes I saw that Elwood, but I've just tried out a medium scale 5 string and my hands are too small . It's pity cos that one is near me. @ Obrienp thanks for the heads up on the string availability.
  6. Looks like really a good bass.Just checked a couple of YT videos and found some sound examples. What's the difference between yours and a 380? I have family in Colchester, so maybe a possiblility there.
  7. Thanks for all the replies guys. I did order an Ibanez Mezzo SRMD205 from Gear 4 Music to try out the 32in scale. Really nice bass and the scale is perfect. Just my hands are too small for the 5 string. I do have an old Yamahe BB404F which I found was making my wrist hurt. So I bought a couple of short scale basses 2 years ago: a U5 Fretless and a Warwick Rock bass. After trying out the Ibanez, it seems like the perfect scale. I've seen the mediums that are for sale on here, look nice, but are too far away from me. I will revisit and see if anything is worth the trip to go and see.
  8. I looking for some advice on buying a medium scale bass. From what i have found these are quite rare to find and my options seem to be: A : Buy a new ish medium scale: MTD Kingston Lynn Keller, Fender Player Mustang, Maruszczyk ( if I could find one ) Max budget would be around £1000 so other boutique offerings would be too expensive B: Buy a "Vintage" 32in bass. Aria Pro II RSB, Ibanez Roadstar II RB830, Fender Aerodyne, etc etc. Seems like I can get something for around £700. I'm a little nervous about this as it will be a 30+ year old bass and would it require more money to sort out any problems. Thanks for any advice.
