  1. To be honest I’m split! I do like the chrome too but I thought they felt awful so swapped them. Might swap them back one day. I’ll always keep original parts so it can be put back if necessary.
  2. I would do but I like to keep the original ones just in case I ever sell. I got mine from Northwest Guitars and they do some nice original looking chrome ones. I got the 6.3mm post ones.
  3. Ok so black strap locks fitted, also some black control knobs and black screws for the pick guard. Looks a lot neater now. What do you think?
  4. Now fitted some black Schaller strap locks and new EB strings, some black knobs to arrive today too. I also ordered some black pick guard screws because the original silver ones just look odd to me on a black pick guard on a black bass.
  5. I have bought one! See the other thread I have about mine. Sounds fantastic, and I hope was a decent price but they do tend to vary a lot in value.
  6. Can you explain how each position sounds to you? It might be helpful for me. The colour is growing on me. I really wanted a bright colour maybe one of the clear colours but they seem to be very rare. Roger Lima has had a blue, red and now a neon green one which all look good but Musicman gives them to him with a custom pick guard so that’s a little easier for him. 😂 Maybe soon I’ll be bouncing round a stage like Roger. .
  7. Crap, might be too late (rushes to check) phew it’s ok on the one I took off to measure.
  8. Polished the frets and the bridge - they weren’t bad at all just a little dulled.
  9. Actually the more I play it the more difference I hear in the 3 positions. It sounds great flat EQ with just a little bass boost when playing with a pick as I do. One of the positions sounds a little more vintage and rounded off.
  10. Ordered some new knobs in black, from Northwest Guitars, hopefully they will look ok.
  11. Oh - I hate the control knobs by the way, they look awful in silver, and ideas where to get some high quality black one to fit?
  12. Bought this recently becuase I needed a 2nd bass, I have my P (first ever bass) but wanted something with a different tone, and my favourite ever bassist (Roger Lima from Less Than Jake) plays them pretty much exclusively. I was going to get a Stingray but when I found out that Roger plays a USA Sterling I started looking into it. I have quite short arms and fingers so thought the smaller body and slimmer neck might be good (tried a jazz bass and hated it). Went to try this one and it fitted like a glove, I just couldn’t believe how comfy it was. Considered it for a day or so as this is only my second bass and a lot of money for me but in the end I went for it. In very good condition for a 2007 bass, the body has some minor marks and a couple of chips in the back (which I will touch up) but the frets are almost perfect and the neck/head perfect. it came with a pearl pick guard but included the original black one too so I fitted the black one which I prefer. Took it apart a bit to polish the frets and all the metalwork, set the neck and check the intonation, everything works perfectly And it sounds AMAZING. Apparently the pickup/preamp drives harder than a Stingray but never played a Ray a/B with this one so wouldn’t know. Turn the bass and mids up a bit and it’s just wonderful (novice so not sure how to describe it - just fat with a rounded zing?). Not really sure there’s a lot of difference between the 3 pickup selector options, it doesn’t drastically change the sound. Unfortunately one of the strap lock button on the Schaller locks I bought for it was faulty so waiting for Bass Direct to send me another (they were great) and some new strings on the way too. Need to raise the action on the A string as it’s a bit low compared to the rest but need to get the proper imperial size Allen key for it.
  13. Currently learning Still Into You by Paramore, and happy I’m picking things up faster now after a couple of years teaching myself. The bridge is kicking my ass though and I’m having to simplify it for my tiny hands.
  14. I wouldn’t accept an instrument with battery acid leaked all over to be honest, that’s terrible. I would want a new battery compartment on that at the very least. I think I’ll wait a while until these issues are sorted.
  15. Please share when you get it, I love that colour.
  16. This is not helping my want for a MM Sterling at all! Such a shame they don’t do them new.
  17. As much as I would like this bass (not quite got the cash) I reckon you’ll kick yourself later if you don’t get those frets sorted and keep it. It’s gonna keep its value and always sound amazing.
  18. Really interested in this. PM on its way.
  19. Does sounds rather nice. To my ears not much different from the original.
  20. I have to agree with you there, even Fender can do a Dirnt signature model for £1450 (it was less recently) and didn’t overprice the squire version when that came out.
  21. To be fair it’s probably just repeating what he’s been told, he won’t have been to do an inspection of the factory’s manufacturing capabilities.
  22. I’ve heard they are a bit weird but don’t know the specifics.
  23. You would have thought they’d be chomping at the bit to get a Mike Dirnt signature model.
  24. Nice Matt Freeman interview of Mike Dirnt where he shows his original Gibson G3 and his new Epiphone version. Both really nice guys. Takeaways - wow that Gibson is the definition of road worn, that new Epiphone could be really good, and can Gibson really not make bolt on necks, seems weird. https://youtu.be/VZU1hoTYipY?si=TxtjrN1EGwhcXIMg
