As far as I know this would be one of the original versions before it was remixed in around 91 I think, it’s a lot slower and you can hear the basssline , it’s on the album Songs Of Freedom Rarities , is this the one you heard myke?

That's much better. Yes, the posthumous hit hardly sounds like a reggae track. Thanks Tony 👍

  2. Is there an original version of Marley's Iron Lion Zion without all the posthumous production and overdubs? Heard it on the radio today and was amazed by how awful I thought it sounded. Would love to hear Bob's original if it exists.

  3. Had this in a trade two years ago, and fabulous as it is, the poor thing hasn't been played, as no matter how many times I think I need another bass I ALWAYS go back to my Shuker, so this has been noodled on a couple of times and then just remained in a case.

I believe the see through cherry over mahogany was a limited run, and it looks really great. Previous owner, @BaggyMan has meticulously added a vinyl carbon fibre look wrap over the tort pickguard. I think it looks right on this bass but will easily peel off.

There are a couple of tiny nobbles on the headstock, and a couple of faint surface scratches on the back - the one highlighting this was taken with a macro lens.

Strung with barely played DR Hi-Beams for extra sparkle - my plan was to have something the complete opposite to my main 5 string, flatwound fretless.

Collection from Stourbridge, or could meet up in West Midlands. Don't want to courier as I don't have a spare hard case.

If you get one stick a brass nut on it.

Just in case Sting wants to relive his youth with it

Actually, I've always fancied a white one, as the ones I had were very comfy and sounded good, but I there was only red and black

Only on here could 34 be considered youth 😎

Not used them but neither would I without a whole lot more than three reviews

Not so much just three reviews but they all look like they have been written by a daytime TV funeral insurance advertising copywriter.

Thought I’d drop this one today as Max Romeo has passed, probably one of my favourites from him

That's a great song to remember him by. Much better tribute than his biggest hit.

  7. A few years ago I had the pleasure of working on an album by The Sounds of Blackness. They came over to perform at the Royal Festival Hall as part of the London Jazz Festival. They performed as a 16 piece on that stage, but are, on their biggest gigs a 60 piece outfit.

We had to set up a TV appearance and a live radio show while they were here. I asked Gary Hines, their MD (and a fabulous human being) what they could do. He showed me his carry on bag that accompanied hime everywhere. In it he had backing tracks so they could perform from 4 singers up to 30+. He also had the tracks on CD, DAT and standard cassette.

As @Beedster says, it depends on genre. It certainly worked very well in this case.

  8. Hi David,

If you haven't already seen it, there was an In Memorium posted with some lovely comments from members who knew your dad (sadly I never made his acquaintance).

Yes I know what you mean, some songs sound great with a reggae vibe or cover but I’m not sure about that one

I reckon the Easy Star Allstars could nail it 😎

Yeah, I’ve heard that one before , it’s certainly different, I think they did a few different tracks, one was called rockers galore I think which wasn’t bad

I like the idea, but I think it's the tempo that doesn't work for me. The original has a fabulous laid back vibe, this is a little bit rushed.

Am picking it up next week, but I now own this:

    https://auctions.gardinerhoulgate.co.uk/catalogue/lot/5e76bece226edd7f4ac8827eec135d67/63b778f7668dabe928d3800924a99077/the-guitar-auction-four-day-sale-lot-17/

Jazz neck, Status pickups and SIMS LEDS. It's a heavy beast, but that's to be expected given the size of it!

That's a lot of Glamtastic luthier built bass for the money. Enjoy it 🤩
