1. Sheffield represent. What's everyone's band called?

I'm in 2, the one where I play bass, inFictions http://www.myspace.com/infictions

And a new one which doesn't have a name yet where I play guitar. Recording soon.

  2.
With the VT bass, much like the BDDI Deluxe
Am i right in assuming the 2 inputs can be used for 2 separate instruments (If the pedal comes before the Amplifier)?

Also it has 6 effect channels, How do you switch between the first 3 and the other 3? does it depend on which input is being used?
I.e you have 3 programable presets per input?

    Cheers
I've never used it with 2 basses but yeah, you can plug a bass into each of the 2 inputs. The far right hand footswitch then selects between the 2 inputs and the other 3 switches select between the 3 presets for that input.

If you just have one bass plugged in then you can use the right hand switch to give you another 3 presets for that instrument, a total of 6. The right hand switch also controls the effects loop with a double tap, but again, I've never used it so don't know if it's any good or not.

    Hope that makes sense.

  3.
The BDDI is probably better in respect of using it as a DI, And what i'll probably end up doing is Getting the VT Deluxe using that live for those great vintage tones, And then if i'm not 100% happy with the DI sound i'm getting from it, Invest in the BDDI either the single stomp-box, but since theres only about a £15 - 20 price difference may end up with the 3 programmable version.
I'm considering selling my programmable deluxe as it's overkill for what I use it for. I'll PM you when I've made a decision and advertise it on here. I don't use bass effects (bass > tuner> sansamp > amp) so I have no use for the FX loop and just use the Sansamp going straight into the front of my amp to shape the tone and give a clean/dirty channel.
Yeah, i believe the Deluxe (Like the VT Bass) also has 2 separate switchable inputs, an FX Loop as well as a Parallel Out, whereas the Programable is just the 3 selectable custom user defined tones.
It does, you can also plug one bass into the 1st input and can use a total of 6 presets on the deluxe.

  4.
That and the fact that they dont have a Programmable VT with 3 presets. That'd be great!
Er, they do! The VT programmable, unless I'm missing something. No blend control though.

Edit:- Me being dumb, it's called the VT Bass Deluxe.

  5. Here's a list off the top of my head.

    Sansamp Bass Driver DI
    Sansamp programmable Bass Driver DI
Sansamp programmable Bass Driver DI Deluxe
    Sansamp VT Bass Deluxe
    Behringer BDI-21
    Aguilar Tone Hammer
    SFX m:D2
    SFX m:D4
    MXR M-80
    EHX Bass Metaphors
    Hartke Bass Attack VXL
    Seymour Duncan Paranormal
    Radial Bassbone
    EBS Microbass 2

Feel free to add any I may have missed.

  6. My Rat. Tried a load of other distortion/OD/fuzzes and it still finds it's way back on my board. In fact out of all the pedals I've ever owned, it's the only one to still be on there since purchase, although I only pulled my DD3 as it started acting up.

The other thing is my Matamp. Great sound, reasonable cost and I live an hour from the factory so I know they'll fix it quickly and properly and not charge me a fortune. I can't imagine ever wanting or needing another amp.

  7. Aargh, my nicely typed reply just disappeared!

To summarise, you can hear both computer sounds (eg MP3s) and whatever's going into the interfaces inputs through your speakers/headphones. The 'mixer' control on the Focustrite does this job, balancing between the 2 audio sources so you could run your BT and play along to an MP3 no problem.

As for going through your hi-fi, just get a stereo phono lead and go from the back of the interface into your hi-hi amplifier and use it as normal. You don't need a pair of expensive powered monitors if you've already got nice hi-fi equipment, although it's up to you. Connecting speakers designed for computers is more difficult as they have mini jack connectors which most interfaces don't have an output for.

Finally, it will be easier if you use an external tone shaper (eg POD or your Tascam if that's one of its features) instead of going through a VST (eg Amplitube) to avoid any potential driver conflicts. For example, I can't do anything that requires sound if I'm running sequencing software (Reaper in my case) as there's no sound from anything but the sequencer. This means I can't load up Reaper, fire up a guitar amp simulator and jam along to an MP3 in Windows Media Player. This might be specific to my computer as my interface is now unsupported.

Any questions, feel free to ask and I'm sure they'll be answered.

It was the first 'complicated' line I had to learn and I play it with the covers band I'm in now. If the drummer starts the song off too fast I know I'm in trouble when I get to that bit!

    http://youtu.be/yCgKBTvx-Aw
Great tune, I'm playing it at a wedding tomorrow. I opted out of that section out of sheer laziness.

  9. Continuing the Oceansize theme, I auditioned for them when their old bassist left and had to learn 'Women Who Love Men Who Love Drugs', 'Charm Offensive' and 'Homage to A Shame.'

The first 2 were pretty straightforward apart from a few oddly timed sections but 'Homage to A Shame' was a killer to learn. Lots of off-time bit and a ton of separate sections to get to grips with. My plan of impressing them and learning a couple more tracks was well and truly scuppered after that one took up all the time I had available. Still fluffed it during the audition too.

  10.
I like the Colorsound fuzz vibe... used to have a modded tonebender back in the late 70's... it was great...but before the modding it was a little light on bottom end... recently bought a Colorsound bass fuzz & it's turning out to be a pain in the arse!

see my signal loss thread! signal loss thread

Surprised to hear you say that yours has tons of bottom end!.... maybe mines a duffer?
The sound I got out of mine was a bit thin but I thought that was to do with the Chandler preamp the guy in the studio insisted on running my bass through. All dirty tones sounded bad through that so it was hard to tell.

  11.
I sold a (Watkins) WEM Dominator MkIII last year, brilliant sounding amp. Still had the original valves (it'd been stuck under a table at a shop with some people that didn't know what it was for years) and worked fine. I loved that amp, if I played blues or similar it would've been great, a single channel amp was and is no use to me though.
I'm sure 2fly studios in Sheffield has a Dominator but it doesn't look like the ones Google brings up. I'll get a pic if we go back there to do any more recording.

Recently shifted a Visual Sound Double Trouble (which I originally swapped for a Digitech x-series 'verb) for around £80 and a D*A*M Dragonfly for £130 (paid £60). I liked the D*A*M even though it was completely unsuitable for me but the Double Trouble.... how Tube Screamers ever got popular is beyond me. There's an original TS808 in a local music shop and they're asking £500 for it. They can keep it.

  12. Not much experience with blend/loop pedals but I thought the whole idea was that it would add some of your clean sound back?

Is that one of the big silver Colorsound bass fuzzes? I used one at a recent recording session and got shouted down by the rest of the band as it was too much. Oddly enough, they let through an MXR Blue Box at the next session.

  13.
never realised how doom that is haha
That's what I thought, I thought he was going to kick into an Iron Monkey tune after the first couple of notes.

  14.
Hi Gareth, there is a screw in the middle of each of the rubber feet. Simply unscrew each one, remove the rubber foot, put the screw back in and, hey presto, easy mounting onto your pedalboard! It's actually been designed that way to give you the choice of using it either as a standalone unit or mounting on a board. :)
Yeah, I threw caution to the wind and undid the screws and it turns out that they're only small and go back in without any problems if the feet aren't there. I don't think it's mentioned in the manual so I hope this helps someone.

Practice at 4 so I get to test it out in a band context later.
