1.
it was like coming home - but coming home after someone's kindly built you an extension and a 2-car garage, re-decorated the house, and filled your fridge with beer.
Very nice analogy there. You were very lucky and not many people get stuck between two right decisions. Although I still think I'd have made the "other" right decision, (that Dingleberry is a really fabulous instrument), your plain jane, flat fretted, numerically string challenged Sandburg is also just lovely. It only takes a minute sat with her to realise she's not a plain jane at all but much more the goddess next door.
2. This is on ebay now with a BiN of £960 but I'd happily take £900 from anyone here.
3. Keith just bought my EDB and what an easy transaction it was. He transfered the money to my bank the day we agreed a price and I know my bass has a good new home.
4. I was thinking that I could probably post this, as it's solid enough and could be well wrapped. It is just as they are in the shops, probably set up a little nicer but I'd still prefer someone to come and do some playing before paying.
5. Thanks for the comments guys. I've always thought that it's quite nicely proportioned from body to head. There is an Epiphone wildkat in the background on one of those shots and that has a head that doesn't fit to my eye. It's still a lovable thing though of course.
6. Well there you go, me and Steve..... Vultures r' us. Although I suppose it could be called public service.
7. A totally biased reply here. I say biased because the one bass I would recommend is the the one I have up for sale on here. I would have given you the same answer a week ago when I wasn't selling it as I think it has the best acoustic sound of any bass I've seen. The Tacoma Thunderchief in any guise is a big sounding bass, warm, woody and loves to be played.
8. I shouldn't be no, and on the other sale thread I have going I couldn't, but I might be here. Did you have something in mind or just clarifying for the other good folks here?
9.
This just dropped through my letterbox this morning...
I hope you don't have a cat that sleeps on the doormat. Very nice bass but I was glad it's only the bees knees and not the dogs ...........
10. One nad and a kidney I'd think. I'd want shipping inc. for that of course.
11.
"Please come and have a play if you're near enough" Where are you??
Sorry Calitos, I thought it said that in the side bar.... DOH!! I'm in Calne, Wiltshire. Not a million miles from Swindon.
12. So, I've shared the nasty with you all in the for sale section. Here is the upside. I found this bass looking desperately unloved and abused. It was sold as a Squier, badged as a Fender but I doubt it's either. Looking to keep things simple and classy, back to wood and a light oil. Some quality hardware, probably hipshot and some nice passive pickups. Right sorry about that, the gallery name and the filter here didn't get on......sorted now. So far we've got to here. Not much but you can tell she feels better already. As I went down through the layers of crud smeared on her, each one was nicer than the one that replaced it. The very last one, the original finish was a lovely blond lacquer with just a hint of wood showing.
13. Along with my Tacoma, this needs to go to make some space. There is a room in my house that is in danger of looking like a toy shop, sorry, I mean studio. There is not too much to say about this one. It's tall, it's surprisingly well put together and it's heaps of fun to play. Does it sound like a double bass, not at all. It does sound big and round and will make you do things that a fretless just wont. Plus you get a dance partner while you're playing. The gig bag is nice and plush inside and has special pockets for the removable body extentions and even one for a bow. I've looked around on the net at the current prices and the cheapest I can find is £322. I'd like £250 for this one that's never been gigged or transported anywhere. Please come and have a play if you're near enough. More piccies here. http://homepage.mac.com/lightfall.uk/Stagg%20EDB%203/4/
14. It's time to send this little baby on it's way. I hardly ever play it, I have a new project to keep me busy (which I'll post up in bit) and unless I let some stuff go I'll have four basses that I feel bad about not playing enough. It's a a pre fender buyout model and something of a one off, made to order guitar. I've had since new and it's never been out of the house, although I have no reason to suspect it's agoraphobic. It's spruce and cedar with an ebony finger board. It has a Fishman pickup for those that want to be plugged in and is built with the care and quality you'd expect from a top notch instrument. Of course it looks good enough to hang in a gallery but that's not the reason why you want to buy it. I played another acoustic bass the other day and was reminded how they all sound. Nice but with a hollow and metallic presence that never works for me. If they are Curtis Mayfield, then this is Barry White. The depth of resonance and mellow woodyness of this beastie is in a world of it's own. It's a hard one to price. It was £1200 odd quid new and can't be bought now for any cost and while I'd hope it will get played, could also be a collectors toy. I'm thinking £950 is a fair price for the sound alone and that's what it should be for. There is a gallery with more pics here http://homepage.mac.com/lightfall.uk/Tacoma/ If you're able, please to come and have a play but be prepared to be won over.
15. I can't work out if that's the coolest or the most stupid thing I've seen in a very long time. So of course I had to buy it to find out. Looks like a giggle either way.
16. Thanks for the welcomes all. Luckily there were no tears on the way down to the wood. The very last layer was really lovely though. A very nice and subtle blonde lacquer with just a little wood showing through.
17. Hello Folks, Been pointed in this direction by someone here, from a photo forum. I used to play bass in a past life and these days I just play at it. I've just started a rebuild on the most manky and unloved jazz bass I've ever met. So far It's just been about removing some rusted hardware and sanding though may coats of nasty paint. Oddly, as I go down, each one nicer than the one that covered it. Also I'll be letting go of my Tacoma fretless beastie to make some room. D
