1. Hey, I would definitely recommend ashdown gear. Ive got one of their 180-watt Elecetric Blue combos....its got a 12" speaker so nice and mellow, but push it and will bite back!...Ashdown makes great reliable gear that's wallet friendly...usually not to bad to lift either! Also some of their practise amps (e.g. the fivefifteen) still pack a 100 watt punch!...I mean to be honest...how much money have you got is what limits you....Ashdown seem to cater for all budgets, and if you cant tell, I simply love their stuff! (no Im not trying to get an endorsement!) Hope I helped.
2. Cheers guys, I realised this was a pretty stupid question....I might as well leave it, I quite like the "new" tone to be honest...but shall have to route out the soldering iron at some point! Cheers.
3. Hey all, I was playing today, when I noticed that my tone pot became dysfunctional, and my tone stayed at a constant "zingy" feel rather than mellow, which is how I like it! I know how to rectify the problem (my volume pots have come unsoldered before), but i was just wondering whether this issue could cause any damage to my amp, as it may be a few days before i can get to a soldering iron. I know this probably sounds silly, but I've just got a new amp, so I want to make sure I don't carelessly damage it (e.g. like when you pull out/put in jack leads whilst forgetting the amps still on). Its a passive bass, so I instinctively dont feel there will be a problem, but I just want to see if you guys feel the same way. Cheers for your help!

Christmas Pedal?

Heya, I'd recommend the Ashdown Envelope filter...it's cheep and sounds great. I occasionally stick a fuzz in front of it....gives a real synth sound!....Here's a review i wrote, just to be helpful! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=58261 its in the effects review section. I'd also recommend some sort of chorus pedal, as have many others! I have the Digitech Bass Multi Chorus...really versatile, from very subtle chorus (sounds nice with my useless slapping), to full vibrato, pulsing Peter-Hook "esque" bass lines, for example "Ceremony", "Bizarre Love Triangle" or "Age of Consent"....if you really pump up the treble on your bass Hope i helped! Josh

6. The Ibanez AFB-200 ( i think thats the fully semi-acoustic model)..with as mentioned above, a set of Rotosound Tru Bass 88's. Changed the sound of the bass amazingly. The strings give the bass either a short sustained thump, or mellow tones...really worth the £25 extra to replace the roundwounds as supplied with the bass. Hope I helped!
7. Heya, use the ashdown just like you do...and i love it! whats your verdict on it? I think it sounds amazing with a bit of a trebley sound put through it...or even a big muff....really weird synthy sounds! Hope you like the pedal!
8. Yes, there needs to be more of our name in the world! Well I feel my guitarist may have some form of the original memory man, so maybe i should see if its what im really after. Im attracted to the "Hazari" just because of how much stuff there is for such a small price tag! Especially the looper, just to mess about in my room with! But maybe I do want something simpler like Memory Boy. Just have to see what everybody else says! Cheers for your help =)
9. Hey all, Ive been looking at the Memory Man with Hazari (I think its digital) and the Memory Boy. So anybody got any views, just any info would be great! Cheers, Josh

11. What about Italia Basses.....incredibly sexy, had the chance to noodle about on one for a few mins, felt quite nice....wish id spent more time with the girl!
12. I have one of the Ibanez Archtop bass (the AFB 200) the fully hollow with a traditional bridge. Replaced the stock strings with Rotosound Tru Bass 88 nylon tapewound strings, and she sounds like a really dub machine! Pump up the treble (this is the only bass that I've ever had the desire to push the treble up to 10!), and you get a really nice in the middle, mellow sound. Worth the £20 extra, and slight work on the nut. But I love this bass, reliable, beautiful, and sounds great! It has twin humbuckers by the way. Ive tried out the Jack Cassidy as well, and couldn't get my head round the pick-up impedance switch, it didn't seem to change the sound much (im sure someone can explain this!), but the bass really breathed quality, and the gold sparkle finish...simply divine! Enjoy, hope I helped!
13. Hello, what are peoples view on the EHX Holy Stain. I know its not meant for bass, but has anybody had any experience with the pedal? (its also nice and cheap at the moment!) Also any views on the Worm? Cheers guys.

Distortion?

Not sure if many people will agree with me..... but a standard USA Big Muff by Electro Harmonix, but maybe only if your amp has a "deep" switch....but definitely one to try! I'm sure there are better alternatives out there however! Josh
15. Hey all, Im actually quite taken by either one of the smaller ashdown practise amps (i have one of their blue 180's....sweet!), or even their mini-rig....might have to be a small christmas present to myself! Cheers, Josh
16. You could possibly use a standard Reissue USA Big Muff (not bass specific) because to my ears it sounds fairly similar. However, Im sure there are more peeps out there who are far more knowledgeable than me! Here is a video of my messing with a USA standard Big Muff on my bass and the sounds you can get (sorry for bad sound!) the setting i would guess, would be tone all off (anti clock) and sustain/distortion maxed out (fully clock) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaWybYd0RVA see what you think, not everybody's type of sound. Cheers,
17. I strongly recommend any Ashdown amplifier, especially the Blue 180 range, they are superb! Really useful!
18. hey whats the price of this new amp? looks lovely
19. Hey guys, I'm looking for a practise amp. But before we get started, Im looking for something similar to the Peavey TNT 100 or TKA range, in speaker size (bigger than 8" please!) and around 20-30watts (or above...sub 100 watts maybe). I've played through old Peaveys and I loved them! I need something around and less than £100 and older models (to be bought second hand) are also welcomed! So, if any of you have any ideas and tips (about the peaveys or other amps ) Ill be incredibly grateful! Cheers, Josh
20. Yes, there review was a great read, just what I needed. Thankfully these seem to be easy to find and try than other EHX pedals, so I feel I need to have a play with one in the flesh! Thanks all, Im sure Ill be troubling all again, with some very stupid questions on my part! Josh
21. Cheers for the responses guys, sorry I havent been able to get back to you all, Ive been in Spain! Just a couple more questions (sorry!) 1) Does it physically boost what ever frequency you dial in? 2) is there a point where the sound gets very trebely/gritty, just would be nice if it did this for me! Thanks, Josh

23. Hey all, Ive been looking at the Knock Out (and yes like a magpie im drawn to the casing!), and do you chaps recomend it? I can see it being benefitial for my bottom end at those gigs where the sound system is crap....or the amatures put you throught the PA or a guitar amp! Whatca think? Cheers, Josh
24. Identical to mine, bar the covers! This is the finish a Jazz should be in! And as you've all said, they are something really special to own and play. When I go from playing my Squier P-Special (which is a great bass) to my Jazz, its just supreme. They really have come up trumps with the American Standards! Anybody who wants to know more about these ladies, Ive written a review in the review section. Cheers, Josh
